Belkin or Furman??

Hi All,

Which one would you pick for your home theater setup?

Furman:

This one has a 6' power cord which is way too short for my needs...

This Furman has a 10' cord, but the reviews are low...what gives?

Belkin:

My maaaaan,

Wouldn't an extension cable nullify the idea of having a power conditioner?

(Plus, the extra wire would look gross - haha.)

Do you know why the more expensive Furman has a lower rating compared to the lower priced one?

Do you like the Belkin?

Well I've had good results using a few products from both brands. If money was a concern, you would get similar performance with this unit (compared to the $120 Bobby mentioned):

Btw, using an extension in no way will affect your sound (though there are some that will claim otherwise, but they also hear differences with raising the wire off the floor too). When you think about it, is that last few feet with the extension cord really going to make a difference considering the "crap" wire that's running through your house, and between your house and miles of wire to the electric company?

Doctor!

Yeah, I picked up the Furman today...got it for $54 (w/ tax) at a guitar center 30 min. away from me...it's already hooked up and everything.

The only problem is that the cord is 6' - so if I want to have it in one of the shelves, I had to connect it to a surge protector (Belkin Surgemaster). Here's the thing, the power cable of my sub will not reach the Furman...haha. Can I plug the sub into the surge protector, or am I better off keeping the Furman behind the TV with the sub connected to it...?

isn't that just a surge protector?

Since I might someday need this information myself, I ran down two-dozen surge protectors on Froogle and compared their cost per joule (without counting the numbers of outlets, length of cord, etc.).

Most protectors had EMI/RFI filtering. The least expensive were models like the Fellowes 9908, with 715 Joules of protection for $3.99 online, or $0.006 per Joule. See also Belkin MasterCube, Cyberpower 650, Fellowes 99078, Tripplite 1000J 25K-Ins (with 1000 Joules and $25K of insurance), Tripplite TLP606 and Belkin STS060-TEL.

The rule of thumb for PCs is 1,000 Joules of protection (dont know why). In that category, Cyberpower 650 with 1250 Joules at $7.81, the Fellowes 99078, with 2000 Joules at $13.95 and the Tripplite 1000J 25K-Ins at $7.03, offer the best values.

By the way, Power Blocker 2 Surge Protect for $27.95 (model N200357) says it has unlimited Joule protection
