pssbarry
I need to run a cable for my subwoofer about 50 ft. I was wondering if anybody else has had to run one that length and what type of cable did you use? Will a RCA cable be fine and if so where can I find one that long? MrMcGoo
You will need to custom order a cable that long. There are several internet suppliers that will cutom make the cable for you. Try bluejeanscable.com. Bill
dougdrake
You can use RG59 or RG6 coax for that run - standard video cable. Can probably find that length pre-made and terminated with F connectors on it at any store that sells a/v accessories, even Home Depot/Lowe's (F is the connector that has the little center wire sticking out, like you'd use to connect to your TeeVee). You can buy F to RCA connection adapters at Radio Shack so it will easily connect to the outputs/inputs on your gear.
formica
Both responses will get you a 50ft cable but i just wanted to warn you that such long line level cables do have a tendency at picking up noise. I ran into a similar problem with a long cabled required for a temporary hook-up in my home. I seemed to be ok with up to 25 ft... but 30ft and more seemed to pick interference regardless of the cable I tried (I tried 3 different ones I had/fabricated around). I'd try out the cheapest route first, just in case... Rob
nicholtl
If memory serves, bettercables (www.bettercables.com) makes cables in the 50ft vicinity as well. Look under their "Silver Serpent" cables.
MrMcGoo
The RG-6 type cable may have an advantage in that it is shielded, if memory serves. Bill
TheEAR
Any well shielded quality coax can be used as subwoofer cable with great results. The secret is low loss and proper shielding. You can run a 50ft run with no loss in bass quality, the minute signal loss can be conmpensated and nobody will even notice. I use 24 and 50ft subwoofer cables, works A1,the longer the cable the more important the quality.
