Pro-media 2.1 vs. bookshelves

Well I dont want to spend more than $150 for speakers that will be used

with my computor, which is down for the $300 I was willing to spend,

however looking at usage time I feel the extra $150 would be better

suited going toward some more vinyl. So would you pick $150 bookshelves

or the 2.1. Keep in mind that I have a hk430 which I am going to use

the booksheves with if I deside to go that route.

DD,

Funny you should say that. At the high end show a couple of years back Tony was working on the klipsch stand with a whole array of speakers lined up. He setup the then current Promedia's to play and then told everyone it was the RF7 that was connected. No-one made a single negative comment about the RF7's performance.

You should have seen their faces, however, when they were told what they were actually listening to.

The 2.1's are killer, James. I own a set of the Promedia's for my laptop, and the sheer depth, fullness, and richness of the miniscule little things are something that must be heard to be believed.

I would get the Promedia's in a heartbeat, and yes, save that extra $150 for a rainy day...

...or some extra vinyl.

When I lost a whole houseful of electronics to a lightning strike, the computer speakers I choose as replacements were the 2.1s because I was plenty impressed with what I heard from them in the store. . .

When I got them home I was AMAZED!!! I immediatly plopped in my favorite concert dvd and sat in almost disbelief at how great they sounded for so little money.

Max,

Had a very similar experience at the 2004 Arkansas gathering at my

house. One forum member had kindly brought a pair of RF-7s which were

set up in the listening room. They were being demonstrated with lots of

dbs filling the room. Don't remember the music, in particular, but it

was Led Zeppelin or something like that. Anyway, at the same time Trey

was setting up the Promedias, with a satellite on top of each RF-7. I'd

gone outside to attend the guests and came back in in a few minutes,

assuming that it was still the RF-7's playing the same music. After a

few minutes somebody asked me what I thought about the Promedias. I

said, well, I'm looking forward to hearing them, having no idea I'd

been listening for several minutes. I do remember my mouth

falling open with the recognition that I'd been hearing them. The

Klipsch engineers REALLY hit it out of the park with these little guys.

I mean, the RF-7s are impressive. But, then again, they OUGHT to be

impressive. Look at the price.Who couldn't engineer good sound with a generous budget. Engineer good sound for $100 bucks? Now that's impressive.
