Rf-7 as center channel

Uh, OK, so what is the final call here?

IF you had to, and IF it were available, could you put an RF-7 horizontally to act as a center channel?

Why couldn't you do this (use RF-7 horizontally)? IF you had to

do this, what is the down side, apart from moving the tweeter around?

The downside is poorer off-axis response and a slightly unbalanced

center channel (the highs would come from one side and the lows from

the other - 3 feet is certainly enough to notice).

You might have a possible problem with the rear ports as well...though that's also a problem with the RC-7 too.

Is it a big deal? depends on your frame of reference - it definetly

won't be as noticeable at the main listening position as it will in

another seat. I think the guys that have experienced and gotten used to

a properly timbre matched system would have a much harder time adapting

- but if you've never heard it and don't plan on hearing it then

ignorance is bliss [;)] Putting an RF-7 on its side is certainly a lot

better than many other options out there, but I think the RC-7 would be

the better performer (and isn't it cheaper too?)

OK, now I get it...I wasn't sure what the fuss was about.

Yes, the RF is more expensive than the RC NEW, but every now and then

you can find the lone RF, in a town nearby, say for very little money,

which just happens to be my case right now...but to set this thing

vertically, and try to put the TV over it, would not only cause me to

crane my neck up, but I would have to mount the CRT (not flat screen,

mores the pity) five foot in the air....a daunting task by any

standard...

I might just have to try it! Thanks!

Ummm...I kinda did this. But not really. Although I did use the KV 1089

woofers from an RF 7 the mid horn is from a KLF30 and the tweet is a EV

T35 with a custom xover. Without looking for all my specs mine is

approx 42"wx14"hx15" deep. In all honesty it is one bad MF center and

blends very nicely with my La Scala's.

As far as the motorboard, yes it is a pain to get it right. I had mine

done by a cabinet shop because it would have cost me the same just to

buy the special rabbiting bit I would have needed. The KV1089's basket

rim is not round, which makes it a bit more difficult to do.

It is also one heavy sucker and takes two to pick up.
