skonopa
Well, last night, I went and saw yet another show at my favorite venue, Jaxx, just up the road in Springfield, VA. This time, it was King's X. This trio plays some sweet straight up rock and "old-school" type metal, with some progressive elements thrown in for good measure. I was standing right up against the railing of the stage, probably not more than three feet in front of Doug Pinnick, the bassist and lead vocalist. After watching him, I can clearly see how he was putting his heart and soul into the music. Excellent voice and some awesome talent on the bass guitar. The rest of the band, Jerry Gaskill, and Ty Tabor (who also did some lead vocals) really harmonized well with Doug as backing vocals. Also, Ty Tabor was just awesome on that lead guitar with Jerry backing everbody else up with some nice tight drum playing. I've never seen these guys live before, and only heard part of there stuff. I was quite impressed. However, before King's X came on, The Lizards played. They were just unreal! Holy cow, Bobby Rondinelli was just unbelievable on those drums. The band as whole really put out an awesome package. It was pretty wild standing there, right next to the stage, not even three feet from Patrick Klein and his lead guitar. There were four other, local, bands that played before. Navel really put on a very powerful, excellent show. I was personal friends with Don Wingo of Occam's Razor, who also did an excellent job that night. For only $20, it was one hell of a night of some awesome music with some seriouslly talented bands. King's X was the highlight of the show, of course, but to be honost, The Lizards was one very difficult act to follow, though. Those guys have some serious talent, and seeing them in action proved it.
