jzoz01
I need an moderately priced dvd player that will handle both dvd and sacd. I've narrowed it down to either the Pioneer Elite DV-45A or the Denon 1920. Both are about $350. The Denon has a lot of new bells and whistles (upconversion, HDMI) but I really don't need them as they won't be hooked to an HD tv. Which has the better DVD transport? I make backups of all my movies now, because my roommates have a tendency of scratching them. My current player has trouble with a lot of the backup discs, as did my last player (although my roommate's piece of crap dvd player reads them perfectly). MrMcGoo
I have the Pioneer 47Ai, one step up from the 45. They share many features and parts. I like it, but the Denon is probably the better buy for you. You may get an HDTV. The video features would then be useful. Many on the board like their Denon DVD universal players. JeffDurbin
Check out the OPPO for $199 at amazon.com or oppodigital.com. It has very good reviews and it has upscaling and DVI output.
jzoz01
I don't need upscaling or dvi/hdmi. I just want a good transport.

I was thinking the same thing untill i saw SACD... as the OPPO only does DVDA i believe. It still is one of the top rated players at the Secrets of HT shootout... regardless of price. Something worth thinking about. ROb
BobbyT
The 45a is a good player. The Denon is probably a good player also.
