Okay, I understand 6.1

Front: Right, Center, Left

Rear: Right, Center, Left

Subwoofer

But, were does the extra speaker factor in for 7.1? Do any DVD's use it yet? Which ones? I know I could probably just find this out myself, but, maybe someone has some addition info to add as well.

important thing is you can have more than 1 speaker handling the same channel material, such as with 7.1.

7.1 is not a sound format but is a speaker config.

dolby can call it 7.1 ex or whatever, but it's still using only 5.1 channels at most. the rear center or 2 rear center channels simply handle a matrix blend of the discrete L-rear & R-rear surround channels. kinda like the front center does for dolby prologic decoding.

dts though does have both es 6.1 (matrix) & es 6.1 discrete. the discrete format has an actual discrete rear center channel which of course u can run into

1 or 2 speakers. so here again if u have 2 rear center

speakers they're still getting the same thing.

see www.dolby.com & www.dtsonline.com for more in depth

info.

most people (like me) find they only need 1 rear center

direct radiating speaker for rear center, like a c7 (for me) or like 1 rc-7(for u). especially when the rear wall is the short wall. an ideal config for u hear could be rf-7, rc-7, rs-7(surround), & 1 or 2 rc-7

as rear surround. especially ok if u'd have a nice big sub like the rsw-15 in which to route the low bass & LFE.
