Wanted: Chorus II Speakers

Hi guys. I'm looking for a pair of mint/near-mint Chorus II

loudspeakers in the Great Lakes area. I recently caught Klipsch

fever and I'm looking for these speakers to pair with my McIntosh

MC30s. I've been using Parasound solid-state amps for the last

several years paired with Paradigm Studio 80 speakers (V2). I'm

nearly finished restoring a pair MC30s and I've heard that the

McIntosh/Klipsch combination is something special. I'm using a

Conrad Johnson PV10a preamplifier. Thanks,

-Brian

I've owned both the Chorus I's and the II's. I sold the I's when I found a pair of Chorus II's. I really could not tell a whole lot of difference between the I's and II's the II's did have a tad bit better bass, plus the crossovers on the II's looked like they were higher quality.

I found a pair of Chorus I's 20 minutes from my house in perfect mint shape for $500 then a few months later found a pair of near mint Chorus II's 6 hours away for $550,so I sold the I's and drove 6-hrs to get the II's. But looking back it was sort of a lateral move. The I's are just as great as the II's.

Just my opinion,I like the Forte's as much as the Chorus'.

Cheers,

Robert

I went the opposite direction; had a pair of II's, sold them, and now own a pair of I's. The I's sound more like a pair of Cornwalls I once had, which is to say a bit more forgiving that the II's. A concern with the II's is the setup with the rear passive radiator. If you have the right room and set up, they sound great with deep bass. The I's tend to work better in my room however due to the position relative to the rear wall. Both are excellent speakers, however and you can't go wrong with either.

Happy Listening,

Dave

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I kinda have my heart set on the

Chorus II speakers I but would consider the Chorus I or a pair of

Cornwalls in good condition. Dave, do you think the Chorus II

sounds best when up against the wall in the corners? What do you

all think about the MC30/Chorus combination? I'm so excited

about having tube amps again!

Brian,

I would not put them too close to the corners as that might exaggerate the bass and make it sound a bit 'bloated'. Personally, if I had a flat wall behind the speakers (I don't, I have a recessed cavity with a large screen TV and my speakers partially in it) I'd put them about 18" out minimum and angled slightly towards the listening position, at least 8 feet apart (more, if possible). Of course, every room is acoustically different and your mileage may vary. Just my two cents...

Regards,

Dave

I have a set but I am in NJ is that to far for you. I also have an Academy center. I am just in the early stages of getting my self to sell them. New wife says the are to big for the room she is right but that does not mean that I want to get rid of the speakers. Baby on the way also so we do have to make a few changes.

Man is that tempting. Only 730 miles from Grand Rapids to

Jersey... Seriously, this is probably furthur than I'm willing to

drive. Would you consider shipping freight? I would prefer

to pick-up and would be a nervous wreck shipping these speakers but I

might be game if you are. What do you think? If not I

understand completely.
