robster
Hi,would a Mac 1900 refurbished receiver match well with Chorus II's ? or would a Marantz 2250B refurbished be a better match. I've found a seller that has both. But I can't audition,he's many miles away. Many thanks, Robert
Chicago_Pete
I have owned a 2285B and several 1900's. It's a coin toss in IMHO. I like the looks of the Marantz "B" units a lot so I would lean towards the Marantz. Sound-wise I would get a Fisher 400:)
robster
Thankee,I've owned several Fishers,I need a SS receiver to put in my entertainment center, can't be tubes,no room for air. To drive my Chorus II's. I have VRD tubes in the music room. I'm leaning towards the Marantz,I've owned a 2325 in the past,it developed a serious illness and had to be sold as is. I liked it. Never owned a Mac. Cheers, Robert
Chicago_Pete
Just from my personal experience the Marantz has been more reliable. 5 Mac 1900's, 3 needed service. 3 Mac 1700's, 2 needed service. 3 out of about 12 Marantz units had to be fixed. No slam on Mac, I have had great luck with all of their tube gear.
robster
NICE looking 2285B! I read somewhere that Absolute Sound said it was the best sounding vintage Marantz receiver..I just sent payment for the Marantz 2250B w/cabinet,the same seller has a Mac1900 but the price is above what I can spend.. Cheers, Robert
Chicago_Pete
Congrats, IM sure you will be happy with it. Getting a nice cabinet is tougher than finding the unit. Make sure he double boxes the unit and NO shipping peanuts! Bubble wrap is king. Good luck, Pete
