ipoddedyourmom
is there any reason why i shouldn't leave my iFi on or in "standby" mode all day? will it overheat even when not in use? the sub on my promedias got extremely hot even when the speakers weren't even operating when it was on. thanks in advance for any replies. off to work for me. Jay481985
the Promedia use bash technology, the iFi is a class D amp but it is not bash. Class D amps are 90% or greater in efficency, I remember someone stating that the promedia uses less than 20 watts standby which is nil. Jay481985 is absolutely right, the Klipsch iFi hardly gets warm to touch compared to some of the Promedia. Putting the iFi in standby mode (effectively off) should be perfectly safe. Andy W
Standby is preferred, since it will reduce power consumption (the power amplifier is switched off). If you are away from home, then the power switch on the back of the sub should be used (no power used). [green soap box] If everyone did this type of thing, we would save millions of Watt-hours of energy each day. [/green soap box] And during lightning storms, unplugging electronic devices will protect from lightning strikes.
Jay481985
If everyone did unplug or shut off appliances we would really use less power. I remember hearing a statement that if everyone switched to flourecence over incadescant, America alone would use 25% less power. And the best thing is flourencent lights live for 5 years. But the problem is people cannot see the justifiable price, they are about 5 times as more expensive. And refering to a post in the technical center, where is it built. us americans cannot see the non listed price, meaning the true price to operate. People buy air conditioners and think well thats all we have to pay then get smack on the forehead when the energy bill comes. I remember CRT TVs use about 100 watts just to be on standby waiting for people to actually turn them on. People are indifferent, thats why we don't all have honda insights or priuses, people outweigh energy consumption in America because the intial price is soo cheap. Other countries empose cylinder restrictions or the gas price is too high... We stopped buying SUV when a gallon of gas almost hit or did hit 3 dollars. In England, it is 3 dollars US per every liter! 3.87 liters equal a gallon.
