nchokie
My house is pre-wired for 5.1 surround and I am purchasing a Cinema 10 system. I am looking for suggestions for a/v receivers. Can most 7.1 receivers be used to run a 5.1 system, or am I better off looking for a 5.1 a/v receiver?
ottscay
A 7.1 reciever will happily run a 5.1 system - I did it myself with two of my recievers, until I got the last two surrounds.

jbsl
Yamaha, Denon, Sony are 3 that have A/V receivers for every budget and many more out there. What is your budget and goals for this home theater system?

nchokie
Goal: I'd like to take advantage of the speaker system and get the most out of it. Most of the use will be for home theater, but am looking for something that delivers superb sound in music, too.
ndskyz
For that price range The Yamaha HTR5860 will work fine. It's a 7.1 AVR with 110w/pch That should be plenty of head room for the RSX-5's Same for the Denon AVR2106 100 w/pch I'd consider kicking in a lil extra cash and going with the HTR5990 It's got HDMI in's and out, Anyone lookin to get a new AVR really needs to think about getting one with HDMI, as it is clearly going to be the standard, with the next gen HD-DVD/ Blue ray players.
