pico_de_luuks
Was wondering if XCRD CD's are worth the extra dollars. Can anybody comment on their sound quality compared to standard redbook? Seems there are now a number of "new" formats and recording techniques available. Should my next/additional player be capable of playing DVD-A, SACD, HDCD or all of the above??? (please don't recommend a turn table as I am still kicking myself for parting with my LP collection and turntable 10 years ago)
pico_de_luuks
Thought I might as well try a XRCD and judge for myself, so I bought the Sheffield Drum and Track Record on e-bay. It's a CD I know very well (love the drum tracks!!). Still interested in your thoughts though...
WMcD
It looks to me that Blu Ray is going to win the video format war. If so, most households will have a player, and most computers will have a player, and PS3? will have a player. If so, all audio is going to be using it too. Consider that redbook CD audio was well established, computer programs used the format later. Then computers could play redbook audio format as a selling point. So computers reading CD-ROM may well have killed off other audio formats like Minidisc. A similar consolidation would make sense in the near future.
