Tube Recommendations for McIntosh MC240

It's time to consider replacing the tubes in my 240. I am on a budget and want to spend the money where it will make the most difference. Is it better to spend the money on power tubes, rectifier, etc? If I replace all with NOS tubes, it could get a little pricey. Any recommendations or guidance is certainly appreciated.

I don't own and have never ran a Mac 240 but I have been using a matched quad of JJ 6V6's in my 1961 Ampex Mono Blocks with GREAT results. I have a matched quad of JJ's in both my Scott 299D as well as in my Dynaco ST70 and I love the sound. They are reasonable in terms of price and they perform well for me.

I'm a big fan of JJ valves/tubes. I have not had good luck with Russians though.

Just my two centavos.

The 240 has solid state rectification.

The first 12ax7 on your left should get a really nice old Telefunken or Mullard--that's the most important one.

Sky's the limit on tubes for this one
