Ryan's Daughter

This is a film by David Lean which has just been released on DVD.

I can see how it was not up to Doctor Zhivago. But what is? I actually dislike Zhivago for being too cloying, BTW.

But let me recommend Ryan's Daughter for the wonderful cinematography and the breathtaking beauty of the setting. It is a love triangle during the Irish Rebellion and WW-I on Ireland's northwest coast.

I also like the way the discovery of the infidelity is suspected and confirmed in terms of cinematography. Very well done.

Sara Miles is easy to look and portrays a complex character. Robert Mitchum gives a good performance which is very far away from the tough guy of '30's movies..

Call it a chick flik or a touchie-feelie film.

If Amy or Mrs. Dtel sees it, I'd like to hear what they have to say.

You might want to take a look at the Granada/WGBH 2002 remake of Dr. Zhivago.

Keira Knightley as Lara (can't believe she was only 16 when this was made!), Sam Neill as the loathsome Komarovsky and Hans Matheson as Zhivago.

Almost 4 hours long. Directed by Giacomo Campiotti.
