J Tanman
I'm debating between three amps, the Outlaw 750, the Harmon Kardon Signature 2.1 and the Marantz MM9000. I realize the Outlaw is superior to the other two, but I cannot quite afford the Outlaw right now and I found the other two for great deals (about half the price of the Outlaw). Right now I have an HK receiver and need more power. Eventually I would like to step-up to separates so I figure a power amp is the first step. Any comments/suggestions? aab3rd
Don't know anything about the HK but I really like my Marantz MM9000. I have had it for about a year with no problems and the sound through my KLF20s, C-7, and KSP S-6s is really smooth. aab
J Tanman
Thats good to know. I also have the KLF 20s and C7. How loud have you played it at and did you hear any signs of compression or straining? The reason I ask is the new Marantz reciever (105 x 6) was rated as underpowered for movie theater levels. I realize this should be much better (more power, separate amp) but am just wondering. I am leaning towards getting the Marantz MM9000. boa12
J, don't know about those reviews of the new marantz receivers, but my sr8000 & ma6100 monoblock put out some great high current power. their amps tend to be a lil warmer, tube like sounding. kinda tamed my klf-30 horns some which doesn't hurt. J Tanman
Sorry, I should really be more specific. After all, you can't judge an entire company based on one receiver. I just didn't know it off the top of my head. It was a review in the November 2001 edition of Sound & Vision on the Marantz SR7200 Digital Surround Receiver. It is not in the same league as the higher end receivers from Marantz or their separates. I just wanted to know if the MM9000 is on the same level as the Outlaw 750. boa12
J, no offense taken, just like you said - maybe the new receiver line is their turning point into mediocracy & we're here to witness history. kinda funny how that review's been really trumped up by the denon crowd. one thing i like about marantz is the reliability & 3 yr warranty vs 2 yrs for most others. i love this ma6100 block. great value for $200. that's another option monoblocks & add 'em as u go. the marantz are real thin low modular to put side by side. they also have the ma700 at 200W. also u may consider an acurus if still at www.ubid.com i got an A200X5 there for around $900. mates well w/ the marantz on the 6th channel. best to audition a few at home if u can. guess u also have to keep in mind how it'll match to any new future seperate preamp too ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front) Klipsch KLF C7 (center) Klipsch Cornwall I (rear) Klipsch KLF C7 (rear center) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer B&K Reference 30 tuner/preamp/processor Acurus A200X5 power amp Marantz MA6100 mono amp (rear center) Sony DVP-C650D 5-disk cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100 digital cable box Monster HTS2500 & HT200 powercenters Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3, RC-3 Marantz SR-8000 receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics SL-1950 turntable/AT LS500 cartridge Technics dual cassette deck Monster HTS1000 powercenter Bedroom: Sony STR-DE935 receiver Technics cube speakers rock on! Colin
what speakers do you have and do you have a sub? ------------------ HORNS & subs; leather couch & feet up; lights out & tubes glowing!
J Tanman
I have KLF 20s as mains, the KLF C7 as front center, and RS-7s as rear surrounds. Boa brings up a good point. I am planning on buying the Outlaw 950 preamp when it comes out. Do you think the Marantz amp would match well with the Outlaw preamp? How important and specific is the matching of the pre/pro and the Amp?
