would say the timbre might be off but how much I cannot say. The new rf-83 is crossed at 1650 highpass while the rf-7 is 2200. That is why the rf-7 lacked a midrange.... cause some of the midrange was handled by a 10 inch woofer! but it should not be as drastic as say two different companies like one horn and one dome tweeter.

If the RF-7's have a high-current quality amp, there is no lack of midrange. To get the very best from the RF-7's, the equipment must be right, but given this, the RF-7's will reward you with a stunning performance that will please you for years to come. Some complain of a slight midrange loss with lesser quality equipment, or lack of high-current quality amps.

This thread is pretty old, but if you are looking for RF-7's, make a best offer to wwstereo on e-bay. I JUST put in an order for mine and got them for $1050.00 plus about $140.00 in shipping. They will ship out the same day too. 100% A-stock, new in the box. Nice guys as far as business is concerned too. Once they show up I will let you know how the RF-7's faired UPS.
