DrWho
Dr. I'm sorry to say that things have indeed been getting worse. But THAT bad? I would imagine that the F3's would be a very easy load to drive relative to most of the speaker competition. Surely Denon isn't stupid enough to build a reciever with such annoying behavior... Though I must confess not having any experience with the latest lineups of any recievers. It seems I really need to go do some homework...there's gotta be a price point where the amplification is decent. I guess if nothing else that means there will be a better market for the higher end seperates stuff - which usually means cheaper too [H] (wow, it feels wierd trying to be optomistic...lol)
Zen Traveler
One of the guys here has a similar complaint with his Denon 3803 with his KLF-30 system. Those speakers have even higher sensitivity than your F-3s but his receiver goes into protection at pretty moderate volume. My best guess is that you don't have a short though that is the most typical cause of premature protection. I expect the Denon is just not happy with the impedance presented by the speakers. I've always liked the way Denon amps sounded, but it's possible that under competitive pressure to add features and reduce price that they have compromised the quality of the amplifier stages. FWIW, I have a 7.1 setup (Klf 20's/C-7/RS-3's and Synergy Ksb 3.1's for rears w/ksw-15) being run by a Denon AVR-3803 and have NEVER had it shut off. The room is 1600 sq ft that is sparsely furnished and we play that system LOUD! [] I bet his problem is a short. []
