Ya, I should have been a bit more on the positive side at the beginning of this thread as I was too quick to try and keep the perception of DIY much more realistic.Anyways, those are pretty much the two factors that will dictate what driver on the market best fits the application. Generally speaking, the smaller you get the more expensive the driver (for the same performance) - or you can sacrifice performance by going smaller for the same price. Bigger is always better and active signal processing can make a huge difference (and is ultimately required for any serious subwoofer). Mlstrass Posted May 23, 2006 Share Posted May 23, 2006 Here's one design: 2 Tempests, 1 Hypex plate amp, 1 big hunk of sonotube. Measured 127+ dB @31.5HZ in my room. Total investment was about $900. I built it because I like to build things, so the labor price doesn't factor in for me. LOTS of proven designs out there. Blake would be better of searching other DIY forums.
