AudioFrog
During shipment, UPS took a couple of chunks of wood out of the rear edge of one of the Forte II's cabinets. I am looking to get someone to repair this but they may have questions about the wood used in these cabinets. I am not knowledgable about woodworking or what is possible for repairing wood. Are the Forte II cabinets made out of solid oak? If not, what are they made out of? Is it possible to 'fill in' the missing chuck with wood putty or some other stuff and refinish the area so that it looks nearly new? Thanks, Ed
rplace
There is a thin layer of Oak veneer over the top of the cabinet that gives it the oak look. You could have filler put in to replace the chunks then have new veneer put in place. If it is the back probably not that big of a deal, but if it was the front or side you might want to have both speakers done so they match. Klipsch was pretty darn good about "bookmarking" the veneer so they look alike. Look throgh the pix here http://www.dcchomes.com/Heresy.html and you will see how the forum member filled in the bad spots and refinished with a different veneer. AudioFrog
Great info! Thanks! Do you know if it is an expensive undertaking getting them both reveneered? I have no idea what the costs generally would be and I am unable to do it myself. I don't even own a router. Ed
