DrWho
Well I was kinda worried about whether or not the idea itself is feasible before sitting down and drawing up plans. Am I just trying to take advantage of an anamoly in the modelling program? Another thing that concerns me is the very small throat (~1/3 the surface area of the driver) and the almost non-existant flare rate to a small mouth (!3x the surface area of the driver). Increasing the size of the mouth does incraese efficiency, but also increases the magnitude of the dips and peaks. Increasing the throat causes it to extend deeper and increases the dips and peaks. And another thing sitting in the back of my head is that the system volume is running right around 40 cubic feet...and there is massive insane infinite-baffleage that can be implemented with that kind of cabinet volume. I'd figure the horn is running right around 105dB sensitive and one can come real close to that with 16 IB drivers. So the next question is, will the horn be more linear than an iron fist IB design? I'm kind of worried about using a high excursion driver and running into horn throat compression. I do have some theories on how to lessen it, but that's deviating even further from the common theory. Btw, seems better performance can be had with the Eminence LAB12 - which was actually designed for such applications. I'll post some actual dimensions this evening. Jay481985
uh guys....not my puppy. this was given to me to play with by a theater friend of mine. he really liked it and i asked him if he wanted a klipsch solution. solution? the kpt-884..... a guy out there make these subs and sells them to theater guys. it sounds very very good. it uses the aura 18 that my ex jbl buddy of mine designed for aura. he sent me a proto woofer in the early nineties to play with and i thought this woofer was the mother of all woofers. he did a great job on the design. by the way, hornloading a vented sub....hmmm, why didn't i think of that...... roy the aura 18 is the same driver used in the wilson XS subwoofer.
