Audiofile821
Here's the deal: About 2 years ago, we bought a system, including the Klipsch powered sub (can't quite remember model number) and HTR-6090 Yamaha receiver. First year -- great!! Second year, we started having problems with the sub not working. Tried replacing the monster cable -- not the problem. Wrangled with the vendor a few times over it -- they ended up giving us a new Yamaha receiver. Worked GREAT the first couple of days -- then, same old problem with the sub not working. Occasionally shows a red light (no signal) but green light comes on, so its getting an occasional signal, but no sound!! Very occasionally, the sub sometimes works! But more often than not, it has no sound, even on the speaker test. Zero output. I don't think this could be a blown fuse??? Could it? I mean, it does work sometimes; albeit rarely. Any ideas? Suggestions?? I LOVE the system but I'm about ready to throw it out the window!! Help!!! [:@]
wuzzzer
Are the subwoofer settings on the receiver set correctly? Does your receiver give you the option to switch between 'large' and 'small' front speakers? If so, most receivers will turn off the subwoofer if the speakers are set to large. Make sure there's a good signal getting to the sub first.
DrWho
Does the sub ever come on if you really crank it loud? Maybe try setting the sub to "on" instead of "auto-on". To test if it's a sub or receiver related issue, try connecting your cd player directly to the input of the sub (If there's only one jack for plugging in the sub, then just connect one channel of the cd player). Be sure to turn the volume down on the sub before you do this. Start playing a bass heavy song and see if you can't get the sub to work. If it does, then you need to reconfigure your reciever. Audiofile821
<<Make sure there's a good signal getting to the sub first.>> Thank you for this advice. We went out and purchased a top-of-the-line Monster cable, and voila!! [] So far, so good, although in the past the intermittent problem has popped up after a couple of days. Wow what a difference the best cable makes! We had a medium level cable, and I think that was part of the problem. Also, I set the front speakers to "small" and that helped too. Thanks! This was a great idea!! Did this, and sub worked!! As per previous suggestion, we purchased a really great cable (read: expensive!!) and (so far) this has worked! However, it was nice to know that we could diagnose a problem other than the sub not working. Appreciate the info! []
