Sub-10 hum

I am using an "inexpensive" cable. However, with it laying on the floor away from noise sources, and no output from the amp, where is the noise coming from, regardless of how cheap the wire is? Is the sub not a high impedance load? Is it putting something on the line that is being reflected by my cheap wire?

Hum is not normally a function of the 'quality ' of your interconnects, except in that they may be constructed in manner that may support ground loops (i.e.: the shield is connected at both ends instead of lifting the ground/shield on the downstream end opposite the pre-amp and thus making the interconnect 'directional' - don't forget to mark the connected end for future reference!).

Check out the enclosed troubleshooting article and procedure.
