ggsalomon
My new Sub-10 hums with receiver volume turned down, connected with 35 foot cable using RCA jacks. Hum goes away with 6 foot jacks, is reduced with 12 foot jacks. I need 35 feet! Any suggestions?
wuzzzer
Typically if you get a good quality shielded cable it should fix the problem. Are you using decent cable or the el cheapo stuff?
colterphoto1
is the cable running in parallel with any A/C cables?
ggsalomon
I am using an "inexpensive" cable. However, with it laying on the floor away from noise sources, and no output from the amp, where is the noise coming from, regardless of how cheap the wire is? Is the sub not a high impedance load? Is it putting something on the line that is being reflected by my cheap wire?
DrWho
Try unplugging the cable/dish source from the wall and see if the hum goes away.
mas
Hum is not normally a function of the 'quality ' of your interconnects, except in that they may be constructed in manner that may support ground loops (i.e.: the shield is connected at both ends instead of lifting the ground/shield on the downstream end opposite the pre-amp and thus making the interconnect 'directional' - don't forget to mark the connected end for future reference!). Check out the enclosed troubleshooting article and procedure. Hum&BuzzInUnbalancedInconnectSystems.an004.pdf
