janyl
HI, Just new to his forum and HT. I listened Klipsch Synergy (F1/S1/C1) on a Marrantz receiver and I liked F1 a lot compare to other brands (S1 and C1 were more common to my hears). I'm going to purchase a receiver, very probably Onkyo TX-SR674. For 70 % music (reggae, pop, classic), 30 % HT, in a 22 m2 room (not dedicated). I need now to choose 2 front speakers, 1 central, and 1 sub. For the surrounds I'll probably keep my old Akai speakers. Could you pleaaase advice me some klipsch speakers for that, for a budget ~1200 $ ? I would go for the Synergy i've heard, but I've read here that Reference series should be better (never heard them for myself), then what set-up would you advice ? Thxs and sorry if that question has been asked many times ....
Bill H.
Two things. Go to this link to view the different recommended systems. http://www.klipsch.com/products/lists/floorstanding-systems.aspx Since you spoke about the F1 , you can get it for around your price range .... Please let us know what you end up with.
janyl
Thxs for replying. Forgot to mention in my profile that i'm in France, so the market is a bit different. F-1 HT system is actually what i listened (1000 here). >> How would it compare to a rf15 (or rf52 or rb81, that's my deal...) coupled with center RC-52 ? For the sub i'd rather go for Velodyne CHT-8R (just advices i got), but i'm not fixed. I know that the price of a reference system is higher than a synergy one, but then i would keep my old Akai speakers for surround (hope sounds not too bad in HT...). I guess going from Synergy to Reference series is worth the case (just a guess...). >> Finally my question is : what would you advice for front speakers and central from reference series, considering my receiver and what i'm going to do with it ? TheKillerTomato
I picked up two RF-82's and an RC-62 center for $1175 US. You can't go wrong with that combo - I promise you. My advice is shop around and getting the biggest and baddest for the budget.
janyl
Sure but RF-82 are really more expensive here. I was thinking of : 1)- RF15 - RC52 -Velodyne CHT8R (1250 ) 2)- RF52 - RC52 -Velodyne CHT8R (+100, dunno if it's worth the case) 3)- RF62 + RC52 without sub (1250 ). For the extra-gain of RF62 while living without sub. Hard choice... []
jamesV
Hello and welcome, I would go for option #3. The main reason would be that you said that it will be use for 70% music and 30% HT. Since the main objective is music you would get the most speaker for your money. Then the sub can come later and you already have a great start instead of getting options #1 or #2 and then upgrading all your speakers if they don't fill out your room like you thought. jamesV
Sorry I forgot to add. Is there any way to listen to the three setups at one place so you can take your own music and see how they sound in a direct test. Just remember that what sounds good to you is what you should get. janyl
Thanks a lot for your wise advice James. Indeed option 3 seems to be a better choice considering music. I just hope that the RC52 will fit with the RF62 speakers (probably more powerful). Finally, as you mentionned it, I hope I can find a shop to listen to that, at least to the difference between RF52 and RF62 floorstanders. Actually that's how I've started to be interested in Klipsch's speakers, hearing F1 Synergy compared to other brands in a dedicated room. Chorus 726S JM Labs were not bad to my hears too, but with a very different sound. I'll let you know...
janyl
Btw here is my final-setup : - RF62/RC62/RS52 : why RF62 ? just an apportunity to buy them very cheap, a shop that was closing next to my home. RC62 for timbre match (same low frequency drivers size as RF62). RS52 because they were sold in the pack. Just plugged RF62/RC62 for the moment ; RC62 is very clear, powerful, really excellent. RF62 are nice, well balanced. I can feel there is a little room for improvement but I have to wait 20-30 hours from what i've read to get the best of it. Don't know if I'll be able to do 5 channels music with RS52. Overall quality of manufacturing is excellent. - Receiver : listened to both Onkyo TX-SR674 and Yamaha RX-V1600, in stereo. There was not a huge difference between them. Onkyo was a bit more bright, with voices (medium) much more "in front of the scene" (hard to explain for me). Yamaha was more dynamic especially for the bass, and more balanced. And supposed to be better for HC. I've finally choosen the Yamaha. jamesV
Wow great setup. I know that you will enjoy them. Why did you question about 5 channels music with the RS-52. The Yamaha RX-V1600 might have a "5 stereo" mode, my Outlaw 950 has that. Congrats, James
oldbuckster
Smart move on the receiver........................YAMAHA over onkyo..............Good Call...............
janyl
... Well very nice to see the setup sounds good to you too ..... Found a quite complete test after buying, for those hesitating between some receivers in this price range. It's written in german but Google Is Your Friend : http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/2006/2_avrm_1.shtml or go directly to the conclusion here http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/2006/2_avrm_5.shtml James, I was just wondering about multi-channel music because RS are dipole speakers ; I have read somewhere that dipoles are not the best for this (can't remember why but may be because dipole speakers work with wall-reflected sounds, and may be multi-reflexions get music confused) . False or true, I don't really know, I haven't tried yet for myself and anyway it's not important since music is supposed to be mostly listened in 2-ch mode . Well got to go ... back on Klipsch's
jamesV
it's not important since music is supposed to be mostly listened in 2-ch mode . As long as you like it, that's all that counts. James
