pjew328
I have this amplifer for many years and have been happy about it. Recently, I noticed there is a background hum. It is especially noticeable with the surround sound processor on. I have changed the surround sound processor but the hum is still there. The hum is less obvious if I turn off the home theater but it is still noticeable. I live in the Minneaplis area. Any advice is appreciated. Guest BobG
First, it's necessary to determine if the amp is creating the hum or if it's another component, or the Combination of components. Try this: If you have shorting RCA plugs, put them into the amp inputs and power up the amp. Check for hum. If none is present, the amp is not creating the hum. If you don' t have RCA shorting plugs, you can try just connecting the L & R RCA output of your DVD player. Turn that player off and turn on the amp. Any hum? Schurkey
Is the hum coming from the amp or from the speakers?
Klipsch Employees Trey Cannon Posted May 19, 2007 Klipsch Employees Share Posted May 19, 2007 The speaker is a reproducer. It can only make sound when receiving a siginal. Bob gave you a good place to start. Let me ask you some questions. Do you have HD cable TV? Has anything changed in the system before the noise? Did Bob's test help? Schurkey
I'll try again. The hum can be coming from the mechanical bits inside the amp box, suchas the transformer. It will sound like the amp itself ishumming. The hum can be part of the amplifier's output signal--either created bythe electronics inside the amp; or passed along from another source andmade louder by the amp. In this case you hear the hum through the speakers. Is the hum coming from the amp or from the speakers? It makes a huge difference in how to go about fixing the problem.
