mas
Since things are slow and mentioning the various gaming platforms seems to draw the fanboys like flies;... well of course I simply couldn't resist! Enjoy! [] Wii Continues to Shine as PS3 Sales Slide Further "For the fourth month in a row, theNintendo Wii outsold its competitors, even showing impressive strengthat a time that is traditionally one of the slower periods for videogame sales. Nintendo sold some 360,000 units of the $249 USDnext-generation console in April, up 39 percent from the previous monthand its highest monthly sales total since January, retail data from research firm NPD Group shows. Nintendo said that it is doing all it can to keep up with demand, and continues to manufacture consoles at a rapid clip. Some of themonthly increase could be due to better supplies at retail, although noreasoning was given. On the flip side, Sony's PlayStation 3 againshowed slowing sales, falling 37 percent to only 82,000 consoles soldduring the month. A lack of first-party titles and compelling new gamesare being blamed for the console's weakness. Microsoft's XBox 360was also off 13 percent for the month, selling 174,000 units, howeverthe company said it saw evidence that the release of the HDMI-equippedXBox 360 Elite helped to soften the typical seasonal decline. SinceJanuary, sales have fallen only 17 percent for the Wii, while the Xbox360 has fallen some 41 percent and the PS3 67 percent. The Wii's salesstability has allowed Nintendo to gain quickly on market leadingMicrosoft and pull further ahead of Sony. Xbox 360 accounts forabout 59 percent of the installed next-generation console user base, followed by 27 percent for Nintendo and 14 percent for Sony. Thebest-selling games were all from Nintendo: DS titles "Pokemon Diamond"and "Pokemon Pearl" took the top spots, followed by "Super Paper Mario"and "Wii Play" for the Wii console." http://www.betanews.com/article/Wii_Continues_to_Shine_as_PS3_Sales_Slide_Further/1179514935
damonrpayne
The PS3 needs more games. Unless you want it for the BD player there are only a FEW really fantastic exlusive games right now, not enough to drive sales. The games start coming in June, so I expect sales to pick up then. mas
Listening to a few others, my take on the differences between some of the PS3 and XBox360 game titles are rather significant. From what I have heard (and please correct this if it is in error, as there is enough nonsense floating around and I don't need to add to it!): Call of Duty 3 for the PS3 has no voice chat, no new levels, and is nolonger supported by the developer. Call of Duty3 for the XBOX360 version has voice chat(whichis available on every game) continues to get multiplayer maps and issupported. This trend, if it is a valid one, does not bode well for the Sony platform (XBox Live Halo3 BETA glitzes aside - sorry but I really can't get too upset over Beta release folks whining too loudly!)
