Can you combine 6 and 8 OHM speakers?

Hi --

I have a Yamaha RX-V661 amp.

The front left, right and center speakers, and subwoofer, are 8 ohms.

I have five additional small SONY speakers I can use for rear left, right and center speakers, and left and right presence speakers, but they are all 6 ohm speakers.

Is that a problem?

If not, do you set the amp for 8 ohm speakers, or 6 ohm speakers?

Thanks in advance for your help.

(NOTE -- I just edited this post because I previously and stupidly used the word AMP instead of OHM)

caution

an 8 ohm speaker and a 6 ohm speaker in parallel returns an impedance of 3.43 ohms.

This is not a problem if your amp can drive a load less than 4 ohms.

Also consider that the 8 ohm speaker and 6 ohms speaker may be an average which includes impedance that drops far below 8 or 6 ohms.

Sometimes amps have switches, config settings, or transformer taps to select 8 , 6 or 4 ohms.
