Which reciever should I get?

Hello all, I am going to purchase the RB-81 Home theater system that consists of the following speakers

  • RB-81 Bookshelf Speakers
  • RC-62 Center
  • RS-52 Surrounds
  • RSW-10d Subwoofer

Which reciever should I buy? I have been considering the Harman/Kardon AVR-645, the Denon AVE-2807 and the Marantz SR5001. Can anybody suggest any other recievers that are good for this system?

Thanks,
Miguel

You might want to hold off a little bit on your purchase. Denon, Pioneer, Yamaha and others will be releaseing their new line up shortly. Onkyo already has and their TX-SR805 is impressive, with HDMI 1.3a, THX Ultra 2 cert, on board DD+/DolbyTrueHD/DTD HD/DTS Master decoding, and low price of around $900-$1000. The other manufacturers will have similar. When the others release their new lines it will push the price down on older models. You can either get a good deal on a clearance item or step up to a newer system.

I currently have a Denon 3805 and it sounds great with my speakers. I guess it depends on your budget. Do you mind stating what you can spend?

You may want to consider Rotel. It mates very well with Klipsch speakers.

I'm using a Rotel RC1070/RB1070 pre/amp combo with my RF5's in a stereo only system.

I'm also using a Rotel RMB1075 5 channel amp (with a Denon receiver as a pre/pro) in a system that includes the RB81 as mains, and RB35 surrounds with an RCIII center.

Thanks for all your advice guys. I don't want to spend more than 1200 on a reciever, so i am really leaning towards the H/K AVR 645, it looks great and is second to best in Harmans lineup of recievers, although, it does state only 75 watts per chanel, is that enough? My friend told me Harman/Kardon recievers are really efficient and is actually more than enough for the system I am getting.

Thanks!

I currently have an AVR 645, and granted 75W per channel isnt exactly the greatest in the world, but its more than loud enough for my living room, 16' x 16'. I live in an older apartment so I cant turn my system up too loud but its more than enough for my RF-63's and RC-62.

You can find the 645 on JR.com for around $660, but if you willing to spend a little more ($950) and have any devices that use HDMI, you might want to look into the Yamaha VX-2700...it supports audio through HDMI and provides 144W/ channel.

What are you recommending, outside of the brand itself?

Go to their website and take a look.....nice stuff...only you know what you want, The Thread Heading is Which receiver should I get, that is a question, I offer another choice that's all, no more, no less...................your money, your choice.......

Well I guess I should have chosen a different way to word my response. What would you recommend from that brand, or are you simply recommending the brand.

They sell receivers.......multi channel amps........Nice products.....only takes a couple of minutes to check them out.......Me, I use a Yamaha receiver for Home Theatre, and a Scott 299-D for two channel............if you chose HK or Denon, or Marantz, jump on www.vanns.com for price checks, no shipping charges, no sales tax.......good prices, great service..........it's all about choices.......

Fair enough, I have seen recommendations to use Outlaw products many times, but I have never had any personal experience with any of their products and was curious as to if there was a product that stands out or if it was simply look and find what you need.

Have you seen the specs on the new Onkyo TX-SR805. THX Ultra2 for under $900...wow. 130Watts/channel @ 0.05 THD and 110dB S/N. Looks pretty impressive to me. The TX-SR875 when it comes out should be even sweeter.

I'm still waiting to see what Pioneer has to say in about a month with their new line up. That is if I can wait that long. I might pick up the 805 if I can convince (beg) the wife it's worth it.

After looking at that I might be in the market for a new receiver...
