THX Ultra 2 sub package ( Klipsch )

I was kinda disappointed in the fact that I could not get more of a listen at Klipsch during the pilgrammage... as the room was packed. Not to fear, I had my fill of playing with these subs at a forum member's home shortly thereafter. I conclude: these subs rock! For me, I would require no less than 4 cabinets with 2 amps, and that could be pricey, however for the most average sane person, two plus the matching amp should be sufficient. Check them out at your local dealer.

Michael,

No rush, take your time,YES four would be great. ~6" flared to 10-11". Now I have to look for a 6" diameter sewer pipe...

I have purchased over $4000 of power tools and various tools...For cabinet making I am ALL set. I only need these quality flares and I can start building ported cabinets for the 15 and 18" Sound Splinter drivers.

When you have the time send me a PM,I can give you a call. I am home late today and Friday(10:30PM). Too much work...

And purchased 12 sheets of 4' x 8' of quality Russian Baltic birch...void free. 3/4" thick...damn this thing is heavy and makes MDF feel like crap.

Cost me $80 a sheet. But the quality and finish is immaculate. Now I can build.

I have this sub package and I played the "Pulse" scene and only managed 105dB with serious amount of chuffing. My two subs are stacked and I could have blow dried my hair in front of them. At 101dB the chuffing was barely noticeable.

I am seriously disappointed and will for sure go the sub-DIY way from now on.

You are a very smart man.

Yes, I used RS. No, I did not compensate.

I just checked the calibration file, and reportedly the bass in "Pulse" reaches down to 16-18Hz, so that would be around 15dB I would have to add to the meter reading.

Ahh, I feel a little better as they ran out of steam closer to spec. But run out of steam they did, so the search is on.

SPL meter mania is pure BS. Stop watching the SPL meter, who cares what it reads...are you satisfied with teh sound quality and OUYPUT ?

These mindless SPL tests are for beginers and kiddies. It is a long time I do not give a damn about how loud scene A from "Blow Them Up II" and "the Return f the real Am Eric Khan Hero 5" is.

On AVS forums some start threads to see who gets what ...max output. Since the room plays a huge role is measured output at listening position...it means squat.

I totally jive with where you're coming from Ear, but at the same time

measuring SPL in a situation like this is a good indicator to determine

if everything is working properly. Basically, it's a number that other

people can relate as to "how loud" it really is. Initially I was going

to mention that the system crapping out at 100dB is an indication of an

acoustics problem. But since it's really crapping out where Klipsch

said it would, then that's a pretty good indication that everything is

working normally and Klipsch didn't under deliver. At the same time,

it's also a good tool to determine the output required from the next

system he chooses to go with.

Just out of curiosity, how big is this room and how far back are you

sitting? Also, what kind of pre/pro or reciever are you running?

As a frame of reference, purchasing a second Ultra2 subwoofer system will only yield another 6dB of output. The stock Klipsch

system is displacing about 2-3L, doubled up is 4-6L so you'll need to

look for something that displaces A LOT more air to get significant

gains in output. And then you'll need to find amplification that can

drive the system. The larger the cabinet you go with, the less amp

you're going to need. I think the Ultra2 subs are amazing based on the

output they can put out for the size of the enclosure they're in. Every

system has their limits though...
