Help! No power in new Klipsch 2.1

(I posted this first on technical questions but then realized maybe this is the place. If I can resolve the problem earlier next week, I'd love to keep these speakers. I don't want to spend another three hours total on the road from Philly to the Best Buy store where I bought these to return a second pair).

I feel really bad about this. Before Christmas my wife bought me a set of Klipsch 4.1. It turned out I couldn't get more than the subwoofer and 2 speakers to play, probably because my two-year-old machine has an older sound card which I prefer not to replace because I'll get a new machine in perhaps as little as a year or so (using a extra Y-cable didn't work). However, I must say based on what I heard of CDs out, the sound from those 3 of 5 speakers was incredible and really does match up to someone's statement that they beat some $1,000 pairs (And I once owned Accoustats that ran over 3,000 back in l980 so I can attest to this).

Alas, I had to turn them in for 2.1's (at Best Buy in Reading). I took a previously opened but "inspected" pack because I thought it was fair. I assumed that I'd have no problems since the crate read "inspected."

Maybe the "inspection" meant only checking to see if all parts were present but not operating it, unless I'm doing something wrong.

Either I'm doing something wrong, or these speakers don't get any power. I've checked all connnections. My cheapo speakers attached to the monitor play when plugged via the same hole.

The strip into which the subwoofer is plugged works, because my lamp operates from it. Shouldn't the subwoofer be warm? Or shouldn't there the light go on the smaller control side speaker? Unlike the 4.1s, this model seems to have no power button or I could clarify a power problem immediately. Later I even tried running them via the laptop. No luck.

I want Klipsch. The last thing I want is to take these speakers back. I really liked the two-channel sound that I got from the 4.1s and assume these 2.1's would sound almost as good.

This would all be so much easier if the Klipsch had a power on and off button because one would know for sure it was a power problem. For anyone unfamiliar with this model, there is none on the control sattelite, unlike the 4.1 models. I even looked for one on the subwoofer and can't find one. Does that mean that, when they are working, the power is always on? If so, that seems a bit wasteful of power.

first off, try posting ProMedia queries in the ProMedia forum much more luck that way! Smile.gif

secondly, there is a powerswitch on teh back of the 2.1 speaker system and teh 4.1 speaker system if you were to say like in Europe, they put it only on the international version for the 4.1.

The 120V version of the 4.1 has the CP-1 which has a button that puts the system in standbye mode/headphone mode.

the 5.1 has a button that when pressed flashes HP and puts it in headphone mode, hold it down longer and it turns it off.

Thanks a million. I even examined the subwoofer but not closely. It's a strange place to put an on/off button since it rests under the desk and is highly inaccessible. Having tried the 4.1s earlier, it seemed even less likely because the button is right on the satellite where it should be. I'd recommend to Klipsch that they put some this information in bold face prominently in the manual. Other than that design decision (a very minor complaint), I have nothing but praise for these babies. They really are amazing. I'll save those comments for the other forum.
