jung4g
I'm installing a Home Theater at a vacation lake home and after the initial viewing over the weekend, I'm debating some first round suggestions for speakers. It's a basement room, dedicated to the theater, so I'm fortunate to not need to blend things in to keep the room "open". Dimensions are 23 x 13 x 8. The 2 short walls and 1 long wall are foundation walls and the floor is concrete foundation as well. Basically, I need sound that will engage the audience (my family/friends) in a big way without sounding like it's working too hard. Since the room does have a budget, speakers only get about $3-3.5k. I'd like to be able to get decent sound for both rows of seating (2 rows of 4, platform for the back row). A suggestion of using the RF-82s for both front and rear was given; however, if I can get better results from the package which uses more of the budget towards a better subwoofer, that could be an improvement. What would you use for speakers in a 23x13x8 room for around $3500? We're not shy to "feeling" the movies, so something that can create an impact would be prefered. Thanks, Carl
sunburnwilly
Thats a nice size room and the RF82's will probably work well . But , for the money you would be better off hunting down something like 5 used LaScalas and have money left over for a nice sub . sunburnwilly
Another alternative that would work really well would be these - http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/101442.aspx Add one more Cornwall and you would have a very formidable set up . I don't think the above deal will last long however . Oh yeah , the LaScalas or Cornwalls would SMOKE the RF82's !!!
jacksonbart
Your basement is finished right? I mean the concrete walls have studs, insulation and drywall on them?
jung4g
Partly... The concrete walls have studs and the foam insulation was sprayed last fall (picture bulk Great Stuff) on all concrete surfaces between studs. I will install the drywall when I finish wiring. I'm considering a few options for more sound isolation and potential add angles to the walls to reduce parrallel surfaces. Thanks for the responses. I'm going to go demo various products locally and I'll figure things out as I go.
Steve Phillips
The RF-82 system would be fine in that room. My room is 23 deep, 14 wide 8 foot high....I used RB-75's Land R with a RC-64 and RS-7's with RB-5's as back surrounds. It was plenty, I cold do 110 db in there without problems But today, three Cornwall's up front with 4 KPT-8001's, THX Ultra2 subs up front with RT-12d in the back.....Aragon pre and power. Your room is large enough to do about anything, La Scala's up front? Maybe a bit over kill, but I would try it.........I was very happy with the Ref system, but what I have now is great
