Lonelobo
I'm starting this thread with the express hope that it will become a place that we can all post upcoming (hopefully) live music events. The ultimate aim of most of our systems is to recreate the "live" experience, so I think it's important to get out there "Among the English" (what film did that come from?) and most importantly, socialize with other music lovers and indeed the musicians themselves. I've worked with a lot of industry legends in my official capacity in the past at the University of North Texas and I was almost always surprised at how willing they were to share with their audiences, the students, and the working professionals that tagged around them like puppies. Please be sure to note that this is not the case with "Pop" musicians...I know because I've worked with a lot of them as well. If you saw what they endured in terms of idiotic fan conduct, you would forgive them, as I do. So, I will start this thread off with "Baton Rouge Blues Week 2008". Web page while it lasts is: http://www.louisianasmusic.com/brbw05/ I have not been to this, but it looks to be a hoot with a lot of room for up close experiences and interaction. Plus a hell of an education. Lonelobo
For all of you in the North Texas/Southern Oklahoma area, a great resource for live music...and GOOD live music is the University of North Texas College of Music in Denton. They have a calendar of all their events and they are numerous. I have found that even most of the student recitals are pretty inspiring...the College has a well deserved reputation for attracting outrageously good musicians. Then there are faculty recitals by some of the best musical pedagogues on the planet...a lot of them form informal performance groups that kick perverbial A$$. That live music calendar is located at: http://web3.music.unt.edu/calendar/

Lonelobo
A Mother's Day Weekend Blues Bash will take place in Colleyville, Texas. Take your mother to the blues!!! The Blue Shoe Project "Blues Today for a Brighter Tomorrow" Fresh of the press- GOT THE BLUES?Blue Shoe Project Plans Free Blues Festival in ColleyvilleBy Scott Price / Staff Writer - The Colleyville CourierFresh off its Grammy Award this year for producing the best traditional blues album, Colleyville-based Blue Shoe Project is organizing a local blues festival.Blue Shoe Blues in the Village will take place 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, in The Village at Colleyville.Michael Dyson, who started The Blue Shoe Project in 2004 with his father, Jeff, said this family-friendly blues festival is the first free event they have produced. He added that the event will include sale of food and drinks, but at "reasonable prices." Blue Shoe is a non-profit organization that seeks to educate people, especially students, about blues and the legacy of American music. Photo Courtesy of Peter Newcomb Although the headliner is Elvis T. Busboy, another top performer at the festival will be 17-year-old bluesman Marquise Knox. The event will include 17-year-old blues prodigy Marquise "Big Daddy" Knox who will lead a blues workshop for children and their families at 3 p.m. during the festival. Dyson said the kids love it when Knox goes into the audience and allows them to play his guitar."He’s a totally reincarnated bluesman," Dyson said. "I don’t know where he gets it."Also playing at the festival will be recording artists Elvis T. Busboy and The Blues Butchers, featuring five-time Grammy Award winner Tim Alexander of the iconic country band Asleep at the Wheel. Blues artist Tutu Jones and slide guitar master Gerry Moss, of the legendary Lloyd Price Band, will also perform.A special VIP package is being offered for $100 per person, which allows personal access to each of the performers and access to a hospitality area with food and drinks. The festival, though it has taken a number of weeks to organize, will be a post-Grammy Awards celebration of sorts, Dyson said. The Blue Shoe Project won the Grammy Award in February for best traditional blues album for Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen – Live in Dallas. The album features David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins, the late Henry James Townsend and the late Robert Lockwood Jr.Dyson said The Blue Shoe Project was approached by businesses in The Village at Colleyville with the idea of having a blues festival, and he said they liked the idea. Now Realty Capital Partners, Tivoli Wines, the Colleyville law firm Denton, Smith and Cunningham, L.P., and Clifton Capital Partners are all sponsoring the festival.Feedstore BBQ, based in Southlake, will be selling food at the festival."This is the first time we have had a free event," Dyson said, "and there is already a buzz around town for this."If everybody shows up and there is some great music, then maybe we will do it again in the fall."Janet Denton, of Denton, Smith and Cunningham, one of the event sponsors, said she has seen Marquise Knox perform. "When he gets on stage, he becomes ageless, like Honeyboy," she said.Denton said she feels this festival is coming along at the right time when The Village at Colleyville is about to blossom. She said it is becoming that old-fashioned walking neighborhood.Denton said she is hopeful that the festival can grow."I think this is the springboard for something big," she said."It’s going to be like something they’ve never seen before [locally]," Dyson said.People are allowed to bring lawn chairs, coolers and have open beer and wine containers at the festival. For information, see www.BlueShoeProject.org or contact Michael Dyson at 817-689-2416.
