oddio-guy
Hello, all, I've got a pair of 1977 heresys, and I'm interested in buying the right amp/pre-amp or integrated amp or tube amp for them. I've done some reading on the web, only to become confused. How much power? Solid-state or tube? I've seen the rave reviews of NAD, the deal on a 30-watt AMC tube amp at SaturdayAudio, etc. (But as Alexander Pope warns, "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.") So I'm asking for your advice. I listen to classical and opera. Thanks for any help you can give me.
mobile homeless
You wandered into this hell-hole at the right time... there are MANY MANY posts and threads in and around the last few weeks discussing various amplifiers and their merits, especially on the tube front. Just take a look within all the threads on this topic. I think tubes are a perfect match for horns and the pairing provides a great combination. There are many choices here including inexpensive ones. I recommend buy USED from the likes of AudiogoN for the best deals. Amplifiers are a very safe bet used and I have had NOTHING but positive results within AudiogoN, as both the buyer and seller. My current amp, speakers, CD player, passive preamp, tubes, back up amps etc have all been bought USED via AudiogoN or carefully selected ebay auctions. kh ------------------ Phono Linn LP-12 Vahalla / Linn Basic Plus / Sumiko Blue Point CD Player Rega Planet Preamp Cary Audio SLP-70 w/Phono Modified Amplifier Welborne Labs 2A3 Moondog Monoblocks Cable DIYCable Superlative / Twisted Cross Connect Speaker 1977 Klipsch Cornwall I w/Alnico & Type B Crossover system one online / alternate components / Asylum Listing f>s>
