friend Posted February 24, 2001 Share Posted February 24, 2001 sorry for being on the dark side, but everytime i hear people talk about DVDs, they talk about SOFTWARE and HARDWARE-BASED DVD PLAYER? what's the difference between these two? does having SOFTWARE-BASED DVD player not require you to have DVD player or what? please help me out here!!! thanks!!! Seb Posted February 24, 2001 Share Posted February 24, 2001 hardware based: you have an additional decoder board in your computer to decode the mpeg-2 video signal software based: a program does it instead of the decoder board. more cpu intensive, but better sound quality and cheaper.
