  1. The same happened to me with my SBLive. Little bass on 4.1, but KILLER BOOMING bass on headphones/2.1. When I reinstalled windows the problem ended and it responded much better (fuller sound on 4.1 and less power and bass on headphones).
  2. OK, that's good. Well, I talked to my dad and he said we should call Logitech to get our money back. Then I'll have 90 bucks. "but MD, where did that come from?" 50 bucks from speakers 20 bucks from grandma for easter 20 bucks from mowing the lawn today The last 10 bucks can come out of my dad's pocket. All right, I'm set. I just need ACTION now!!!
  3. There we go. What a deal!! I'll have fun all right, now I need to put my plan into action. To do list: --figure out some way to get PM's (completed; Z-540's blew out) --Return speakers for cash (50 bucks) --Beg parents for extra 49.99 or end up paying for it myself --Buy refurb PM2.1's --Rock the house with REAL sound --Get a life (D'oh!) edit: crap. Warranty is only good for 90 days. Has anyone ever had problems with refurbs?
  4. Now all I need is parental support. I need to find the refurbs on the Klipsch site first of all, because there's no way they're going 180 when 100 bucks for perfectly fine refurbs are an option. Well, I'm getting too excited. I just had to take some benadryl because I was sweating due to getting excited over a possible speaker upgrade.
  5. I seriously don't believe it. My Z-540's fried. This must be some kind of message from God: "MD1032....go.....buy a PM system". I told my dad what happened and it's obvious. The rear speakers have fried. I plugged my NetMD into the rear jack just to make sure, and they are fried. No matter what signal I give them, nothing some out except a faint hiss. I the stereo signal leading to the rear speakers inside the wub cabinet is fried. At any rate, I have a 2-year warranty and I'm taking these babies back to get my 50 bucks back. Obviously I'm not getting another set of these (UGH I HATE THEM WITH A PASSION), so I'll be stepping up to (hopefully) a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 or 4.1. I don't know if my parents will be willing to chip in for the 4.1 (expensive) so the PM2.1 will do just fine (it's a step up at any rate). I just want to check out the PM2.1 before I jump on it. Give me info on the subwoofer, I don't want it to be weak and boomy like my Logitech sub with its wimpy 20 watts and 4" pressure driver. I also want cheap prices on it, preferably 100 bucks or less. edit: HOLY F**KING CRAP! The Klipsch specs blow the Z-540's specs to pieces (ohhh yeah....an 8" 130 watt sub...<drool>)!! THAT PLUS PERFECT QUALITY?? Man, this thing is STOKED!!! Well, I'm excited, but I need prices. I need to get a system for 100 bucks. I know refurbs go for this price (refrubs are just as good as new, it doesn't matter to me), so can you get me a link? THIS IS THE MOMENT I'VE BEEN DREAMING OF!!!!
  6. Depends. If you have a huge room and you like gaming, go for it. If you have a small room like mine, an extra cabinet doesn't work.
  7. Then again, if you're like me and you have a Z-540 system, EVERYTHING sound horrible! The sub is very unbalanced and innacurate. For example: a bass guitar playing. On my KSC-50 earphones (they're good earphones, better than some pro headsets), it sounds balanced and even. On my subwoofer, the bass guitar may be playing a note and then switch to a note below that and the subwoofer will double in volume. I don't know why it does this, but it's a bad sub, and I mainly listen to techno/rap type stuff on it, because it's built for that kind of stuff and expecially gaming.
  8. How could the 4.2 have louder bass? All they did was take the woofers and put them in seperate cabinets.
  9. OK, I give up. The winner is Klipsch. Next stop: parents, the source of cash. The 4.2 is a waste in my opinion. Who the heck would want an extra subwoofer cabinet sitting around? I think it's better to settle for the 4.1.
  10. Hey, I just noticed this thread. I play WarCraft 3 as well and my screen name is JohnL9013 if anyone wants to play a game.
  11. I don't know. I do know that the 4.1 is the same thing, except the two 6.5" woofers are in one enclosure. I'd go for the 4.1 if I were you. You don't need that extra sub cabinet sitting around because it does you no good. 4.2's are hard to find, too.
  12. Nice, can you give me a link? BTW, this is the way I see it now in terms of advantages over the other: Klipsch 4.1: --sweet highs to die for --clear low-hitting subwoofer Logitech Z-560: --POWER --powerful subwoofer (although not as clear) --WON'T BREAK --cheaper I don't know what to do. I want the PM4.1 more than I want the 560, but I just can't decide....
  13. Well, I'll be damned! That's one heck of a price for the PM4.1's!! Guess I know where to get them now. The Z-560's are still a helluva lot cheaper. But, are they worth it? I have the 540 right now and I HATE it's boomy subwoofer, and if the 560's is going to be similar, I don't want it. Then again, it also has a lot fo power. I'm also concerned about the 560's highs. I'm basically crazy when it comes to clear highs. They have to be there and clear for me to buy it. Are they still good enough? That phase plug might help, but can it compete with a tweeter?
  14. I am officially jealous. Holy crap...256MB of power. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH I HATE YOU!!! I HATE YOU!!!!!!!!
  15. Can I invert the dust caps of the 4.1's myself? BTW, I do have a VERY small room. My computer is in my bedroom and it's very small. I don't get why Klipsch horned the tweeters, it's just a bit too much. I'm getting mixed opinions. I'm not ready to cross any of them off the list. I'm actually reading one of many good reviews on the AL 641 and it looks well rounded, especially for the price. Eh, the 200 watts RMA isn't looking good though. BTW, here are the lowest prices I can find for the speakers: 641: can't find one. (no longer available) Z-560: $139 @ newegg. Privately as low as 115!! Klipsch PM4.1: $215 @ newegg Well, the AL 641's are off the list now as they are no longer available. That's a shame. The 560's are looking good in terms of pricing, whereas Klipsch is really expensive considering how low they could actually go (no pun intended).
  16. OK, I'd like to take 3 speaker systms and have a battle betweeen them to see which gets the best bang for the buck, clarity, and power. #1: Altec Lansing 641 --page: http://www.altecmm.com/product_details.asp?pID=641&sID=1 --specs: http://www.altecmm.com/downloads/641%20sell%20sheet.pdf Altec Lansing is almost forgotten now that Klipsch and Logitech own the speaker market, but can this oldie-but-goodie pull through to the top? #2: Logitech Z-560 --page & specs: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&contentid=5044&CRID=2&detail=2&countryid=19&languageid=1 Logitech has finally put out some competition for Klipsch with it's decent full-range drivers and MASSIVE subwoofer. But are the highs good enough to make it worthwhile? #3: Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 page & specs: http://www.klipsch.com (unable to get direct link) Klipsch owns the speaker market. They've got superior quality and power, but if this thing is going to break in 2 years, what's the use? It's up to you guys to find as much info for me as you can. When I upgrade, I want to make the best descision possible. the funny thing about all of these systems (which I like) is that they all have sufficient bass power to satisfy me, so it's a matter of quality vs. bang-for-the-buck.
  17. How could the 5.1's be worse than the 4.1's?? You'd think with all of the latest technology available and the control pod and all they'd be more stable. I'm still kinda leaning towards the Logitechs because they won't die on me. Then again, if their highs are going to suck like the highs on my 540's do, NO WAY. edit: I'll make a new thread where we'll have a shootout.
  18. Well, I might as well get the PM4.1's. BTW, I'm not getting this upgrade now, this is way down the road. Yeah, that's my main hesitation with Klipsch is that my speakers are going to die. I mgiht just get some Logitechs and be safe. What's that warranty on these things anyway?
  19. I can support the 4.1's, but the center channel and control center have no place on my small desk. WOW, that's very reasonable! I'll go for it next chance I get. edit: hmmmm. Not that I'm looking at one, but out of curiosity: What's the difference between the v.2-400 and the PM4.1? They look identical and are basically the same! edit: only one difference noticable: on mid-range drivers the dust caps are not inverted.
  20. OK. Well, it's a bit unlikely for me to get an upgrade soon, but I might as well ask around. I've pretty much decided my next set to be Logitech or Klipsch. I'd love to just buy a Klipsch system, but EVERYONE is complaining that their systems are frying! I don't want to buy a system that's going to die on me in 2 years! Oh well, at least get me some info on where I can get the PM4.1's at a good price (from an authorized dealer). I sure hope they're cheaper than the 5.1's because if they're not at least 100 bucks cheaper I'm getting the 5.1's. edit: I might not be able to suppot the 5.1's as my room is small. Time to think smaller. How is the 2.1 sub? Is it more powerful than the 540 sub? I know it's cleaner. I'm dying for a set of PM's at any rate.
  21. The ti series of Nvidia cards are AWEOMSE! Their new Gefore4 ti4600 128 MB card is pretty damn awesome, as well as their brand new UBER-GRAPHICS CARD, the GeforceFX. The new cards have pretty well designed heat sinks and you don't need an additional one, unless you like to overclock.
  22. Once a month, take your computer outside and crank it open. Get a dust rag and a good can of compressed air. KILL THE DUST!!! I find lots of dust on my cooling fan on my graphics card. Only use the dust rag for the case, not any circuits. A clean computer is a happy one. And you don't need any filter, it wouldn't do any good anyway.
  23. Is the Z-560 sub comparable to the PM5.1? At my local CompUSA, they have the Logitech Z-680 and PM5.1 systems set up. I know the 680 sub is merely a modified 560 sub (except heat sink is bigger and outside the cabinet). The 680 wub obviously blows the PM5.1's in terms of power with its 8" 188 watts RMS long-throw woofer, but the Klipsch subwoofer is cleaner.
  24. No, I have the Z-540 speakers, not the 560. The 560 is the one with the earth-shaking subwoofer which I DON'T have by a longshot. At any rate, I think I'm becoming more and more comvinced that my next set should be a Klipsch set instead of my originally planned Z-560 or 680 upgrade. WOW boy that subwoofer looks pretty nice. I could go for one of those. I might as well get the PM 5.1 though. Thanks for the info. edit: Don't forget I'm putting up with that Logitech sub, and while it's powerful, it's very empty-sounding and kind of inaacurate.
