  1. I also use a pair of SVS 16-46PC Plus from SVS. The rest of my system is a pair of 1991 Klipschorns, a McIntosh MA-6900 integrated amp ( its dual pre-outs made the set-up a snap ! ), a tube CD player, and a Pioneer Sacd-DVD audio rig. I have the low pass on the SVS set at the lowest ( appx. 40 hz. crossover... ) ... and they sound great with the Klipsch. SVS, so far, is the only sub I have had that integrates so well. Now I have Klipsch that goes to 16 Hz... hard to beat ! My full review is on the SVS site... suffice it to say we got appx. 110 db at 16 hz in the room... amazing....
  2. Hey guys, I just picked up a brand new MA-6900 from e-bay from a store liquidation. $2950 Delivered to my door... What a masterpiece ! With the k-horns, it is magic... now I am thinking new CD player...
  3. Now you guys really have me thinking. One of the reasons I sold the AMC stuff was there was a problem with the Klipschorns.. they were noisy... I even bought a line conditioner from Balanced Power Tech... and still noisy... how does the McIntosh tube stuff stand up... ??? We are very familiar with ebay... my wife has 182 positive feedbacks in one year... and we have never sold anything there... maybe that is why she is ok with this stero gear... Thanks again guys !... any more advice ? This is good stuff !
  4. After two weeks with the Klipschorns hooked up, I have sold off the AMC gear, and am running the Aragon 8008st/YBA pre-5 combo. I am looking to use the aragon/yba for my Cornwalls in the Family room... Any suggestions about Mcintosh Solid State Equipment... new... used... ? That works best with the K-horns ? ...And if anyone can direct me to a dealer in Mac that will work with me on pricing ? We have no local dealer in Erie, Pa... Thanks for any help... !
  5. Several people have wondered about Aragon power amps mated with Heritage - especially the k-horns. I have done some comparing with AMC's Tube gear vs. the YBA pre-5 pre-amp plus the Aragon 8008ST power amp. I am using CD - SACD and DVD audio for the comparisons. We have everything from Pink Floyd to David Sanborn to Alanis Morrisette to various classic... The YBA / Aragon combo is nothing short of magic. I tried several other pre-amps ( an aragon 18k, adcom 565 and the AMC ) with this, and they are a perfect match ( the YBA/Aragon ) ... This pre-amp is under $1000 - and even has 5.1 hook-ups in and out for future. What this set-up has done is return music to our house.. Even my 11 year old son is listening to classic music... it is great... I put on a CD... and soon everyone is sitting and listening. I am selling my tube gear... and NEVER thought that would happen. The Klipschorns are more amazing than I thought possible - I really cannot imagine another speaker... especially when I see guys with speakers 30 years older than mine who love their k-horns still.
  6. Thanks guys... Gary, I am just running two channel for now... but 4 channel is in the near future. and Jim... I was a little hesitant about the $3500. But they are perfect. Even my artist and decorator extraordinaire wife cannot find a flaw. I am listening to Pink Floyd's The Wall... and oldie, but great for checking out a system. What a system !
  7. They are walnut, have the AK-3 Crossover, k-55 squawker, and K-77 tweeter. Physically, they are a beautiful piece of furniture. They are the oiled Walnut, and have not even a blemish. For sound, I am using the YBA PRE-5 Pre-amp and an Aragon 8008-ST power amp. I do prefer this combo to the tube AMC stuff... and they are amazing. As good as the Cornwalls are, the big boys are even better. The DVD audio of Steely Dan's Two Against Nature is fantastic. As is Roger Water's live tour on SACD. I have owned some pretty good stuff over the years... and for $3500 delivered, these are amazing ! The speakers that the Klipsch out perform ( to my ears ) include Legacy Focus, Infinity IRS Sigma, VMPS Super Tower Special Edition, Definitive Technology BP-3000's, and sever other less expensive speakers. I have owned and sold all the above mentioned speakers... except I still own the Infinities. They are very nice HI_FI audiophile speakers... but the K-horns are music... more to come !
  8. DT - Thanks for replying. The K-horns are 1991 vintage, and the current owner sent 12 pictures showing them to be in perfect shape. We are a pretty committed Klipsch house. Our home theater is Based on a pair of 2001 Belles... with Klipsch centers and surrounds... and I also have a pair of Cornwalls from 1986 that will be the rear speakers in my basement Dad Stereo room. This will make 3 pairs of Heritage plus we have 2 pairs of RB-5's a pair of KLF-10's and a CF-7 senter channel... it is massive and works seamlessly with the Belles. Looking forward to hearing the big guys... We paid $3500 delivered, but they are a great Walnut finish, original boxes/manuals... so it did not seem too bad.
  9. My Klipschorns are due tomorrow... in the original boxes/manuals etc.... There is talk about the best way to seal the bass bins in the corner of the room. My "audio" room is 40 by 16 by 7.5 feet. The corners that the horns will be located in are all concrete ( floor AND walls ) with thick pads and carpeting on the floor and drywall over 4 inches on insulation on the walls. It is a very neutral room. What is the best way to ensure that the speakers are properly set up for the best bass response ? And pictures WILL be posted... Thanks
  10. I had the identical amp on a pair of Electrovoice in the late 80's... E-V makes a lot of the components in the heritage series... It was a great match for the E-V's... better than the Adcom 555... or any other budget amp... I have tried an old 50-WPC NAD with my Cornwalls... and it sounds great... almost tube-like in timber... just not as lush as tube stuff... or my Aragon, but for $175 you will be very happy... and the best part... that NAD is musical... Got for it... and enjoy !
  11. I now have the Aragon and YBA hooked up to the Cornwalls. They were hooked up to a pair of $10,000 Infinity IRS Sigmas. The combo sounds great. I tried the AMC tube stuff, but it seems very sensitive to ground hum problems, and other electrical noise when mated to the Klipsch, this was never a problem with the Infinities... efficiency CAN cause problems. I will be trying a Balance Power Technology BP-2 conditioner, and will let all know how the unit works. It is $1200, but they make a smaller unit for $349 - it will handle 1000 watts, and could solve the noise problem with Klipsch efficiency and electrical noise, without a large outlay of cash. For now, this SS set up sounds wonderful... and the Cornwalls I bought for under $1000 delivered are outperforming the Infinities... glad I did not pay the $10k for them ( the Sigmas ) ... more to follow when the K-horns arrive...hopefully this week !
  12. The SACD / DVD Audio player has its own extensive internal menu... It is the DVD-47ai from Pioneer... and when you set it for Phantom... it equally mixes the center into the two front channels... I have been using the Cornwalls with a pair of KLF-10s in the rear... and it works great... The Aragon also works fine with the cornwalls... sounds wonderful... but the k-horns will be the real test...
  13. I have two pre-amps and two power-amps... The Pre-amps sre an AMC 1030 class A tube.. and an audio refinement pre-5... it is solid state, and has a 5 channel in/out for the newer DVD Audio and SACD formats... it also works in stereo... it is a great piece... and only about $800 from Value Audio ... they have a nice website as well. The power amps are an AMC 2100as tube amp... runs in class A up to 15 watts per channel... and of course, the Aragon, which I believe runs in Class A up to 20 Watts per channel... I will have a lot of fun over the next couple of months... right now... I am thinking the system will end up with the pre-5 running tube power into the k-horns for the front... and Cornwalls for the rears... with a Phantom center... but time will tell. And will post any findings...
  14. I do own an Aragon 8008st... and will give it a run on the k-horns when they arrive... will let you know how they operate together...
  15. Gary - Keep me informed on the Cornwall search... thanks for the well wishes... I will keep you informed when I see more Cornwalls on the web. Thanks to all for the advice to play with the AMC stuff... it really is a bargain... new - it is about $1200. I may be having some of the " it was not expensive... do can't be great stuff " attitude. I will let all know how things sound. This is going to be fun ! I found the k-horns on audiogon... for those who have not tried that site... it is great... check it out !
  16. I have found the klipschorns. A pair of 1991 vintage... mint condition. Original boxes and manuals. I should have them in 10 days... I have AMC tube gear now... any recommendations for upgrades ? The stuff I have now is a class A tube pre-amp ( the 1030 ) and a 2100as amp... 80 WPC... 15 WPC in class A ... and the matching cdb-8 tube cd player... Thanks !
  17. DTLongo - Would you be so kind as to e-mail me where you got your new Klipschorns from... and what you paid for them ? From everything I have read today, I think new with the most recent crossover is the way to go... Thanks
  18. Thanks guys... any more advice is appreciated from what I have seen so far, This forum is the best around. I have owned speakers from VMPS, Legacy, Def Tech, Koss 1020 ( circa 1979 ), Boston A-400, Infinity IRS Sigma ( still own.. anyone interested ? ), Electrovoice Interface C ( closest to klipsch ), Psb Stratus Golds, Mission Argonauts and several others... and my Belles and Cornwalls make music, not hi-fi ... my lovely wife, who only comments on what she hears... LOVES klipsch...
  19. Gentleman : I have a line on buying a pair of 1984 Klipschorns with the AK-2 crossover and metal tweeters. How do these rate in the overall family of K-horns ? They are even in my wife's favorite oak finish. The asking price is $3000 ... but the seller is taking offers. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You.
  20. It does appear that Gary and I will come to terms easily enough. Does anybody know a dealer that can get me a pair of NEW Klipschorns in clear oak ? Our Belles came that way two years ago, and my wife finished them to match her decor. As we all know... When she is happy, everyone is happy ! And she is giving a thumb's up on me finishing my listen room with the corner horns... What a woman !
  21. Bill cannot quite handle the cost plus shipping... if you want to drop me a line... let's see what we can work out
  22. Dean ... I was wondering if anyone would catch my hypocracy...lol.. well done. And the world needs more lunatics...
  23. And Dean... My room is a basement room... with two concrete backed corners... deep carpeting... and thick insulation behind plaster walls... it is really neutral... and seems a natural for the k-horns... The dimensions are 40 by 16 by 7.5 feet...
  24. Thanks for the replies guys... The cornwalls do not meet with my wife's approval in the theater room... or I would have tried that. Bill... Where do you live ? The cornwalls are in great shape.. They are light oak ( not white... more light golden oak ) and have the beige cane grills... maybe we can do something... It is definitely a want item... not a need Does anyone know where I can get a pair of new k-horns in clear oak ?
  25. I just signed on to this site... and cannot believe my eyes... there are plenty of places to vent political nonsense... THIS is not that type of forum ! THAT being said. Had our troops SHOT ONE IRAQI that was looting... THEN what ? Are you going to say there is virtue there ? Or would you be complaining about excess force ? One major point of this war was to allow the Iraqi people to govern themselves. They WILL have some problems. They WILL work them out. It is THEIR country. AND - WE are not assuming ownership of the oil fields... The Iraqi people and new country will have ownership Can we stick to speakers and music now ?
