Is it the C 22 I I or the C 22 I I I?It’s the c22 that they are currently selling and is featured on the McIntosh website. . I believe that is the 111.

Definitely considering a C22 Reissue....
I have to say the new C22 is a great preamp. Great phono stage that is adjustable to any Mc or mm cart and all the features of the preamps that I grew up drooling over. I finally pulled the trigger on this and boy am I glad I did!

I agree thebes.... I enjoy the tactile experience plus I love being able to make small adjustments to the music. Claims that such controls/knobs unavoidably degrade the signal through some black-magic process are nonsense IMHO. Take one look at a mixing board and you'll see that well engineered controls will not necessarily alter the signal when left at "0". Of course, some equipment manufacturers participate in this myth b/c minimalist gear (think integrated amp w/ just source selector and volume knob) is easier and cheaper to design and manufacture. I didn't really get into hifi until the late 80's, which was after this minimalist nonsense took hold. ..I'll bet hifi was more fun in the days before. More choices, more knobs, more knobby choices
As an owner of one of their Integrateds, I love that McIntosh still includes tone and stereo mode controls on virtually EVERY one of their integrateds and Pre-amps. But I strongly dislike that all of their beautiful knobs and rocker switches have been replaced by one or two multi-function push-and-scroll knobs. Ugh. I find these to be nowhere near as satisfying to use. See the C22 below - have you ever seen a piece of hifi gear more beautiful than this...? Now look at the C47 - kinda boring by comparison. And these multi-function knobs are nowhere near as snug or snappy feeling to use; in fact, every one I've tried felt kinda wobbly.
Here's what I'm referring too (and yes, I know the pic of the c22 is of their recent re-issue)
Actually that is not their most recent reissue. Here is the current reissue

This should be a start of new ongoing thread. Bands / music that seemingly everyone but you think are great. FWIW I agree with you on Zeppelin!

Are you taking any measures whatsoever to rule out expectation bias?? As I've suggested before, use a different cable for L and R channels, play a mono song and push your speakers close to each other (Yes, you have K-horns. Still, get a friend, put 'em on some sliders, and this can be accomplished easily), now switch back and forth using your balance control. You really hear these big differences?? I highly doubt you will.
As for amps.. Any modern day amp that is engineered to be linear, and is not driven beyond it's operating limits will sound identical to any other such amp. This is even true of comparing a well-engineered Tube amp to a SS amp. ..Don't believe me? Go to a McIntosh dealer and compare their SS amps to their Tube amps. ..If volumes are precisely matched (a MUST when comparing amps) you will not be able to tell them apart. that's a promise.
I so wish PWK was around to weigh in on this. I would bet all my gear that he would say what I've said above is true.
Lucky for you that you cannot tell the difference between various amplifiers. If you cannot tell a class A from a class AB or a class D from a class A you can spend $19.00 on a chip amp ( I assume you believe there to be no difference between various chip amps) and be happy as a clam.
For me part of the fun of this hobby is the differences between various components - including amps.

Klipsch doesn't make a speaker... La Scalla.
The fact that they were listed as La Scallas may be why they lasted 7 days!

Bang the Drum Slowley is a great sports movie that rarely gets mentioned. Early Di Niro I think 1973 or around that that time.

I too would endorse calling Brent Jessie. Ecc82’s are notoriously noisy. A lot of the vintage ones were originally in test equipment. I have had tremendous success with Brent for all my fancy tube needs.

A few years ago I bought a beat up pair of decorator cornwalls that I painstaking finished in piano black. They looked awesome and I was able to more than double what I paid for them. Cannot say it was easy. Lots of wood filler , sanding, sanding sealer and lots of coats of at the auto body shop - yes I had them painted at a body shop with automotive paint.
Not sure I could find photos of those! But they turned out fantastic.
-
You can see on your original picture the edge of the birch plywood on the top of the speaker - indicating that they are probably decorator models You cannot see that seam on the pair in second picture you posted.
-
Personally I do not believe that to be the original finish. From the picture those appear to be decorator models that came in raw birch. A photo of the tag on the back can confirm this.

Enjoy your new speakers. The best solid state amp I have ever heard is the benchmark AHB2 You will have to stretch your budget a bit because I rarely see them on the used market. Do some research and you will find that I am not alone.
