  1. Yeah. My nephew did this poke, but my son is starting to walk, meaning they gotta either be stored or sold or be subjected to more damage.
  2. Hi, I have a set of cherry veneer RF-7s and an RC-7 that I'm getting ready to sell. They are perfect, except a nephew pushed in one of the cone caps. It's small--the whole flaw is maybe the size of a nickel. There are no creases or cracked paint. I'm pretty sure the cap is black painted aluminum. I'd like to "pull" this concave bubble out of the cap with no other damage. I imagine using a suction cup and maybe a jig to protect the rest of the cap from deforming when I pull on the cup is ideal. Is this something a speaker repair person can do? I'm pretty handy but I'd rather not mess up a driver in an otherwise perfect set of speakers due to lack of experience. I know car dent repair shops can pop something like this out of sheetmetal--maybe I should contact them. :-) Any advice appreciated. Thanks. Dan
  3. Hmmm, CSVA-1 vs. CSVC-1.. ? I can't tell the difference! I have to imagine they're the same circuit, though only one claims to be bidirectional. Entech appears to be another company under Monster I guess. CSVA-1 - $99 http://www.monstercable.com/productPage.asp?pin=910 CSVC-1 - $129 http://www.monstercable.com/productPage.asp?pin=1038 I should probably just buy an SVHS vcr.
  4. Howdy, I'm looking at the Monster Power CSVA and CSVC. What I know so far: it's simple to passively go from s-video source to composite. Going from composite to s-video (when hooking a VCR to an S-Video AV Receiver) is much harder; the chromation is wrong on most passive converters, and the picture will be worse than just leaving the connecion Composite (RCA). The Best way do convert is through an active (powered) circuit. Monster Power has these passive ones that they say aren't bad--you agree eh? Sounds like you like it. I'll have to try it. I just hate spending money before I believe the results... Thanks for your input! dan in kc
  5. seriously consider used or last year's equipment. Last year's models are half of what they were new. Adcom, B&k, parasound, rotel, nad, harman-kardon 5 channel amps are $500 to $1000 used. Outlaw's 5x100 amp is $1099 new. Marantz MA-500 mono amps are ~$150 each used. usually RCA cables go between preamp and amp. Nicer units can do balanced inputs. I don't have any suggestions on preamps - well my H/K Sig2.0 is nice for their current price (~$300) but the remote is terrible.
  6. Hi All, Can anyone tell me whether the Heresy 1 stand pictured here on a Heresy is from Klipsch, is an aftermarket kit, were sold with Heresies, etc? I'm familiar with the "removable tilted" stands, but not these, which are screwed on. I assumed they were aftermarket, but saw the same stands on another pair of Heresys on eBay here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3027470511 In case the picture doesn't upload right, here's a link to the picture I attached: http://kcaroc.pcbs.net/stand.jpg TIA for any information!
  7. The Academy would be actually used with Chorus IIs. I will most likely break down and get a klf-c7 or a set of KG 1.2V bookshelf speakers. For anyone else in Kansas city, there is a pair of oak KG4's at Retro Inferno (1712 Main street) priced at $350; today the owner said he'd take $300, and he might take less if someone offered, they've been there a while. Not real sure if that's a good price or not, but thought I'd pass it on; since I walked you'd have a good shot at $275 mebbe. Also looked up the LaScalas ad in the KC Star, wish I had the room but alas, my wife barely allowed the Choruses in the family room.
  8. Good news: we found a pair of Heresys for my Dad from this post! Yay! Glad he got bit by the bug. I wish Klipsch would produce a center channel "compatible" with the Heritage stuff since you can still buy those speakers new; it might just increase their sales of the Heritage line a bit, since now folks have to stay with the newer models to retain proper A/V functionality. Hello Academy II?
  9. Diggs, Howdy! Finally got back to reading my post again. I've been researching those Academys, they appear to have been going for around $200 in 2000, now $350+ in 2003, and it appears new they were around $350. Maybe since the demand for these are so high and going up Klipsch would consider producing them again.
  10. Howdy all, Looking to buy a good used pair of Heresys within a day's driving distance of kansas city or st. louis. non-black-finish, good condition please. Also looking for a good Academy, non-black-finish preferred but we all know you can't be picky with these. Serious buyer for right speaker(s), I've been watching eBay for far too long. email me at dan@pcbs.net
