  1. Decisions, decisions, decisions....! I have found a great opportunity to buy a Refurbished NAD T973 for a pretty good price. It is rated at 7x140 continuous (8 ohms), and most people who know NAD know they rate their gear very conservatively. The headroom specs on this amp are fantastic! Here are the listed specs; Continuous power out into 8 ohms 7 x 140W (21.5dBW) Rated distortion (THD 20Hz-20kHz) 0.03% Clipping power (0.1% THD) 170W (22.1dBW) IHF dynamic headroom at 8 ohms +1.4dB IHF dynamic power 8 ohms 230W (24dBW) 4 ohms 390W (26dBW) 2 ohms 450W (26.5dBW) Damping factor ref. 8O, 50Hz >300 Frequency response 20Hz-20kHz +0, -0.2dB Input impedance R and C 50K Input sensitivity (for rated output into 8 ohms) 1.1V Voltage gain 29.0dB Signal to noise ratio, A-weighted ref. 1W 95 dB ref. rated power 125dB This may be the way to go. Anyone running one of these? And how concerned should I be that I am running all of my AV gear, including my TV (not my sub though) on one 20 amp circuit?
  2. The above is a 2 channel setup. I am looking for a multi channel, hence my interest in the T973.....
  3. I had meant to PM, sorry everyone. But, if someone has a NAD amp they are looking to sell........[]
  4. I am considering a new Outlaw or Emotiva amp. One thing I cannot find is power ratings in regards to headroom on these amps. They each have amps rated to deliver 200 WPC all channels driven simultaneously, but what is the headroom on these babies? I still have not made a decision on what I am going to get. I may even go with a NAD T973, rated at 140 WPC with all channels being driven, but 200 WPC in stereo mode, and the headroom is great (what is posted at nadelectronics.com).
  5. I know this post was old, but did you ever sell the amp? WHy did you sell it? Please respond with pros and cons on the amp please. Thanks!
  6. I have a old Mitsubishi CRT 5o inch, circa 1993 or 1994. Last spring a circuit board got fried and I lost the red projector. It cost $200 to fix the board, then we found the bad bulb. Mitsu doesnt make the bulbs anymore cuz it is so old, so I bought a new HDTV! Lucky me I guess! Good luck!
  7. I am also considering going with the 5 channel (5 x 200) and using the stereos 110w to drive the rear surrounds, as there really isn't much going to those anyway. Or would most of you recommend going the same wattage all the way around?
  8. I am seriously considering buying a new Outlaw amp. I was considering an Emotiva, but for brute clean power, I think outlaw is the way to go. Feel free to entertain me with rebutalls! [] Anyway, I have a set of CDT-5800Cs in my ceiling for rear surounds, hooked up to a Denon 3803 AVR. These speakers are rated at 50 WPC, 200 continous. The Outlaw amp I am looking is at either the 7200 rated at 200 WPC x 7, or the 7125 rated at 125 WPC x 7. I currently have the RF7 series for mains, center and surrounds, and I do not plan on changing them. I think a good 125 WPC amp such as the 7125 will drive the RF7s, RS7s and RC7 with more than enough power, but I am a little concerned with the lower sensitivity level of the 5800 and feeding a healthy dose of watts from either amp being a tad too much. I do realize that I can adjust the frequency cutoff going to the 5800s via the receiver ( I do plan on upgrading teh Denon within a few years for better video switching & more video inputs). Comments, thoughts, ideas, input from Outlaw amp and RF7 owners.........
  9. I have recently been purchasing my cables from monoprice.com and have been extremely happy with them. Here is a link to a 25 foot svideo cable, price is around $4.00 plus s/h. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10207&cs_id=1020701&p_id=2415&seq=1&format=2&style= Dont be fooled by the price. I bought a 50 foot HDMI cable for around $35 I think. The cable wighed about 10 pounds, and is very thick and stiff. It works great. I also have 50 foot runs of toslink and coaxial digital cables and they work fantastic. And the prices are great, shipping is very reasonable, and they ship very promptly!
  10. I bought the Sony 60" SXBR. I am VERY happy with it. A built in DVR (Like the Mits) would have been nice, but Tivo will work in the future. The OTA HD stuff is incredible. Yesterday I watched 45 minutes of the HD PBS feed on the biblical relationship with the middle east. The narrrator talked about Noah, Adam and Eve, Abraham, etc...... While it was interesting, I was floored by the visual part of the show. I am not a basketball or NASCAR fan, but I did watch a litle of that just cuz it was in HD. I really wish the Detroit-Edmonton and Dallas-Colorado NHL games had been shown in HD. Shame on them!
  11. I have RF7s in front, a RC7 for the centre, and two RS7 for surrounds. I have a Denon 3803 powering the system. I am looking into adding one or two rear speakers (CDT 5800) for a 6.1 or a 7.1 system. As I understand it, Dolby Digital "matrixes" the surround channel into a "rear" channel, and DTS does have a dedicated 6th rear channel. Would only one speaker (in my case, a ceiling mounted speker in line with the front centre) be more ideal than two so that the sound is more directed into the middle of the rear? Has anyone done A/B comparisons with one speaker in the middle and two speakers spread apart? If I were to get a pair, should they mounted close together?
  12. I have RS7s, and I used two 3" screws (I forget the actual size but I used what was recommended) into a 2x6 stud, for each speaker. It was tricky to hang, but they han nice.
  13. I ended up getting a Sanus at Best Buy, holds 100 pounds. Should work swell.
  14. Before I bought mine, I did a search for dealers within my zip code (via this website) and sent them an email with what I wanted. 1 responded back and he got my business, he even delivered them to me! Yes I got them for les than my local auth dealer.
  15. Thanks for the advice, but I am not sure I understand what you meant by you used angled blocks of wood, and why...... I would probably angle the speaker down a litle, but the TV mount is able to be angled slightly, so I wouldnt use the bolts that screw in to the bottom of the speaker. The TV mount I am buying supports 60 pounds, and the RC7 is listed at 44, so that should be fine. What I may do is drill a couple of small pilot holes into the bottom of the RC7 to screw in a couple small screws from under the TV mount to be sure it stays in place. I wouldnt go in more than a half inch. Any thoughts on this?
  16. I just got a 60' Sony SXRD (Love it!) and the matching Sony stand. I need to mount my RC7 speaker above it, and a great option is to use one of the TV wall mounts. They hold 60 pounds, get bolted to a stud, and almost extends out far enough to get to the front of the TV. The mount I am eyeing extends out from the wall about 17 inches, and the TV is about 26 inches out from the wall. I am guessing that if I have the bottom of the speaker at about the same level as the top of the TV, it should not really affect the sound too much. One that I am looking at has a bar that is L shaped, and I wonder if I can mount the L barcket upside down so the bracket is not seen (it would go down below the level of the speaker, so the speaker would hide it from view). Has anyone done this before? Thoughts, comments, suggestions....?
  17. I am heavily favoring the Sony, while the new Mitsubishi model reviewed in the latest issue is 1080p (wasnt it?). Anyway, the Mits looked very nice at Best Buy, even though it was an older model (62627?). The worry I have however is the spinning wheel at 10,000rpms over how many hours of use, 6-800 for the bulb. How long will that thing spin? The Sony SXRD has a superb picture, an nothing spinning, and cheaper than the new HP.
  18. So does Cable carry your locals in Hi Def?
  19. My 12 year old Mitsubishi 50" TV just went out. The wife turned it on, it flashed a bright light, then went out. it will not turn on now. Amazingly, I recvd permission to buy a new HDTV! Woo Hoo! I am currently eyeing the 60" Sony Grand Wega SXRD LCD and the 62" Mitsubishi DLP, both are full 1080p sets. I am favoring the Sony. My theater set up is a Denon 3805, a Sony DVD jukebox, Sony CD jukebox, a Sony single DVD player, a DirecTV Tivo reciever (I also have a Hughes HD DirecTV receiver that I would be able to hook up), and a Harmony 680 remote. Speakers; RF7s, RC7 and RS7s, a Def Tech PF1500 sub, and I plan on adding 2 ceiling speakers in the back soon. All of my gear sits in a cabinet built in to a wall alongside the wall that the TV and front speakers (and sub) are on. The speaker wires, S Video (currently in use), Component cable, all run thru the walls from the cabinet to thier appropriate place on the other wall. If I were to run a digital cable from the TV back to the stereo cabinet, it would require some cutting, drilling, pacthing, etc... and about 30 feet of cable. And would this provide the Dolby Digital sound from the OTA local HD channels to my receiver? Lets assume I get the Sony TV, and I want to watch the local news. Right now with the Harmony remote, I push 1 button and the TV fires up and goes to the input for the stereo (video switching is in use) , the stereo goes on and selects SAT, and the TIVO receiver (which always stays on) goes to local channel 11, which is in standard video. How would I configure this setup to select between locals in HD, and the other channels that are not in HD to go thru my TIVO? And do this in a way that easy for the wife and kids to operate? When we watch local channels, we obviously would want to watch it in HD, but when we watch other channels from DirecTV, I want to make that switch over as easily as possible. And lastly, does Dish Network broadcast the local channels in HD? I may possibly switch over if this would be an easier route. Thanks everyon in advance.
  20. I bought this SACD a few months ago, but just listened to it. It stinks! It is suppose to be a SACD, not a 2 ch stereo CD. It claims to be both, but I wanted the 5.1 surround. I wish I had checked here before I bought it. Why put something out on SACD and keep it 2 ch?
  21. The trailer had me and my son DROOLING when we went to see Robots. Cant wait for episode 3 to come out!
  22. I saw it today with my 14 year old so. We both thought it was quite good. The story moved along, wasnt too lomg, and had quite a few funny parts even for adults. The Star Wars trailer was shown b4 the movie, and I CANNOT WAIT TILL MAY 19! O M G !!!!!!
  23. Thanks for all the advice. Sound and Vision Magazine was right, this is a poor design for a $900 speaker. It will definitley be a fun trial and error project
  24. I have not yet put the speakers up, but I can tell already that there isnt much room. The speaker terminal is almost flush with the back of the speaker, and the little "box" that the terminal sits in is very small. I have me speaker wire coming out of the wall alongside the stud. I plan on puting the screws into the stud to hang the speaker on, but my point being there is not much room for the wires to attach to the speaker, keeping in mind the back of the speaker is VERY cose to the wall itself.
  25. Klipsch sure didnt leave much room behind theRS7 for the wires did they! I am FINALLY able and ready to hang my RS7s up on the screws (wich are in studs), but there is basically no room between the speaker and the wall!? Those of you that already have them mounted, what did you do to keep the speaker flush with the wall? The little cavity in the back of the speaker is nowhere big enough!
