  1. I've been watching the ebay bidding wars for Academys' and wonder (considering bang for the buck) if a single Heresy might be as good a match as the academy for HT with a pair of Cornwall I's. Any comments? Considering the Heresy is also from the Heritage line, I would imagine their 'voicing' and timbre are close to the Cornwalls. Also, considering a pair of Heresys probably cost less than a single Academy, I wonder what the trade offs would be? Lastly, if there is anyone else out there with a similar dilemma (have a pair of Heritage speakers and looking for a center), would you want to buy the second Heresy after I find a pair? Regards, Dave
  2. Man, I envy you guys close enough to compare systems...Wish there were more 'hornaphiles' down here in San Antonio, where I am at. I guess I need to get some tubes for my cornwalls to really appreciate them. Currently using an Acuras A200 (200wpc). But that is half the fun, finding new combos that bring out the best sound. By the way, which is preferable, a stereo tube amp or monos? Any why...? Regards, Dave
  3. I think I have a Klipschorn review from Audio magazine (from the late 80s, I think) If anyone wants a copy of it, let me know. Regards, Dave
  4. Hi, Recently purchased some vintage Cornwalls (circa 1979). Have been following advice on how to upgrade them, which will be done one step at a time. But now, another question... What is a good tube amp to use with the Cornwalls? I think I would prefer monoblocks. That way I can keep them close to the speakers and use long interconnects instead of long speaker runs). I have looked with great interest at the Antique Sound Labs Wave 8s (only $200 a pair!). However, if there are some other gems out there to look for instead(used, classic, etc) that might offer more 'bang for the buck' and would have a synergistic fit with the Cornwalls, I'd certainly like to know. I'm guessing many of you have tried a variety of tube amps with Klipsch and would be thankful for your insights. I've used solid state the past 25 years, (with dynamic cone and planar speakers) but now wanting to enjoy horns with tubes. I hear the right match can be magical. Thanks in advance for any tips.. Regards, Dave
  5. Oh, another 'newbie' question, if I may. Although it may be obvious, how many caps do I buy per speaker and what values? One per driver? (3 per speaker?). Are the 2.0 caps just for the tweeters; 2.2s for the mid, etc...? I don't plan on tweaking these until I get them back from being refinished so won't be able to actually dig around in them to answer some of this. But would like to order all necessary parts beforehand so I can jump on them when I get them back. Thanks again in advance....
  6. Wow...lots of great suggestions. I've never tinkered around with the 'guts' of the speakers before as to changing inductors, etc, but hoping it is somewhat intuitive. I'm guessing I just use a solder gun to remove the capacitors and/or inductors that are there and replace (resolder) the new ones? As far as the rope caulk...I'm guessing I just need to coat around the outside of the horns (mid and tweet) to reduce unwanted vibrations? I also plan on refinishing these (from plain birch) to a satin or semi-gloss black finish (the grills are already black). Again, thanks for all the ideas. I'll start ordering parts soon. Any specific rope caulk to use? Regards, Dave
  7. Hi, just purchased a very nice pair of Cornwalls (1979 vintage) and wondering what tweaks are available to maximize their potential. Any ideas or thoughts out there from other Cornwall owners? Also, is there an easy way to replace the speaker connections to 5 way binding posts or something a bit more solid/modern? Thanks for any inputs...
  8. Well, ended up getting the Cornwalls. They are 1979 vintage and in almost perfect shape (although I will be refinishing the birch in black). Now the search is on to find the right tube amps for them...
  9. Peter Gabriel- Secret World Live Fleetwood Mac- The Dance Eagle- Hell Freezes Over Yes- Live from the House of Blues Sarah Brightman- One Night in Eden All are great... On the other hand, one to stay away from (regrettably) ELO- Out of the Blue (very compressed and only in stereo) Just my .02 cents...
  10. Thanks for all the info...I plan on giving both models an audition this weekend and hope to come back with a pair of one of them. For home theater, I already have a pair of KSP-S6s for surrounds, so just need to find a good center channel for them. I had an KLF-C7, but it was too big for proper placement. Any ideas on which center is best mated to either the Cornwalls or Chorus?
  11. Hi, I'm new to this board but long time Klipsch aficionado. I've owned several models in the past to include a pair of Cornwalls, LaScalas, and KLF 20s. Currently using a pair of Eminent Technology LFT-VIIs but miss the 'horn sound'. I've been contemplating purchase of the new RF-7s but now thinking for half that of buying a pair of Cornwalls or Chorus II. There are two pair of each model within driving distance for sale and range in price from $750-900 (asking). Questions, if I may since I have never auditioned the Chorus II. How do they compare relative to the Cornwalls? (Imaging, bass, accuracy, etc?). Which is the best bang for the buck? I understand the Chorus replaced the Cornwalls but I am guessing that may not be indicative of their relative merits. Anyone have both or extensive experience with these? Any thoughts/opinions greatly appreciated. Regards, Dave
