  1. actually my HD has 2' panels pre cut with very little markup from it scaling to a full sheet so I try to buy those when doing boxes. However, I am going to be building a couple bookcases and a desk so I will be renting a truck anyway to cart all this wood home...this is one of the reasons I am spinning the idea of looking for a sub/building one now.
  2. That's what I am talking about I just hate cutting MDF heeh.. I will have to think about that. I'd love to build some sub bases for my Quartets to raise them up and not take up more floor space too. a 2x2x2 cube would be good for that.
  3. Another option is to use the side wall next to the couch and place the right surround across the room, The left surround would then be 5' away from main listening position and the right surround 13.5' away. My Yamaha HTR-5960 does have time delay, but I am not sure if this is pushing it more than placing them behind and slightly to the sides and above the listening position... [:'(] want to get them up and running
  4. I'd like to build the sub for $200-300 or less. With the Sub-12's out there the price / performance would have to be worth it. My listening room is 16x22, I have my theatre setup up in an area about 10x16 to one side. The room has a 7' drop ceiling. Mains are Quartets, Center is an Academy...power is from a HTR-5960 rated 120W. Rears will be RS-25's that I still have to mount. Edit: This is also a home I own so I can be more flexible with walls...however the entire room is concrete and there really isn't any rooms to route the backwave too. (directly adjacent to the kitchen and a bathroom)
  5. man I need one of these deals.
  6. I have been looking for a sub or two for my Quartet/Academy (and now RS-25 surrounds)...not a huge room (16x22)... However I have been building stuff for cars a long time and just picked up a new table saw, crosscut sled and miter gauge....I know in cars an enclosure that's $500+ can be built for usually less than 1/2 that with better power. Is there a good DIY sub setup for heritage gear?
  7. What was the size of the original four bumpers for the corners? Were they just slightly larger than the recess in the backboard? Thanks! Å
  8. What about the RS-25, smaller cabinet, smaller driver...more low end (on paper )? I ended up with the RS-25's...I think I will be happy for movies at my volume levels....unless I endevoured to modify my ceiling the RS-25 was the only fit...I could have cut away some of the edge molding and went with RS-35's, but I don't think the gain would be worth it. I was hoping to add another pair of Quartets for surrounds
  9. These will be right behind the couch about 2' back and 6.5' from the floor in that header above the door and kitchen passthrough. The couch is about 8' for scale. Where should the RS-25's be placed on that back wall? My quartets are directly on each side of the couch in front about a foot from the back wall and 6" from that one side wall.
  10. $250 is still in that price range I was looking at. There should be many options...I just don't know which blend well and are decent.
  11. Here in Palm Beach County they stopped carrying them the last few times I was there...I will have to check again.
  12. Thanks!...I'd still like to crack them open and take a peak one day...do you happen to know how the network is mounting on the Quartets? Via the terminal block or woofer?
  13. I am open to suggestions in that same price range...the 10" subs/100W are about $150 and the 12"/200W are about $250... What models should I put on a watch list, any I should avoid? I looked up those hgs-15's pretty steep...
  14. I have wanted to add a sub for a while, I am on a tight budget though so the best subs are out of my immediate range. Ebay and CL always have the KSW-10 and 12's with 100W and 200W amps built in..are these decent? They go for really attractive prices. I will have Quartets/Academy/RS25's for Main/Center/Surrounds powered by a Yamaha HTR-5960 (about 100W a channel 'rated') I listen at lower volumes so was looking for something to restore the 'feel' I am not getting (wife hates loud action movies, they make her jumpy). For reference I am at about -35-25dB indicated on the reciever, I went to 0 once and thought I'd have divorce papers sent to the office the next day Also if I did get the 15's I was wondering if I could put the Quartets on them to raise the soundstage a bit...not sure how that will affect the coupling. (12' may work for this too not sure) Thanks
  15. Guy had RS-25's he let me substitute for (paid extra, they were white and only used in store as a display/demo). I was tempted to keep the Rebels coming for front effects but 5.0 for now is plenty...I want a couple subs next.
  16. They are lighter than most picture frames and esp. mirrors standard 1/4" wall anchor in good drywall is overkill even. If you really want to stud the wall do horizontal studs and not worry about the vertical spacing. the bottom can be secured with just a standard anchor then since it's not bearing any weight (not sure if the RS-25's have two keyholes or one, I have a set coming to me though that I can check in a few days.
  17. I was coming to recommend these. They work really well on my Quartets...however; my 20lb cat can still shift them on my mexican tile. Anyone know a store that carries these still? Wal Mart used too...Ace and HD/Lowes here didn't have them.
  18. if I had the spare $500 I would. Bob Crites had given me a really fair quote on a cap redo...I just can't handle the downtime right now. Plus I was thinking of this as a self project.
  19. bought them ...I am forced to listen at lower volumes most of the time (-35dB to -20dB if I am lucky)... We will see...can't beat new in the box though.
  20. I know what would work 'awesome', but unfortunately that is not the room I have to work with. That location is slightly behind the listening position, it would also be slightly beside at the same time. it'd be in the area dolby recommends. I am not listening at reference levels so the RS35's or KG.5 - 2.5's would be adequate. I wish I could fit another couple of academys up there too.
  21. The KG series simply will not fit without some substantial ceiling modifications. I mostly will be using these for movie's not music. I would love to be able to move my quartets back and get some better mains as an excuse
  22. Looking for RS35's for fit as I only have 8" of height to work with..why do they have an inferior low end if they are billed as a better update? Å
