  1. Michael, Not a good time to have a "year end" with a stock broker...most likely ended with a "tear end".

In Danville, where I work, the economy ususally doesn't follow the national economy in that it never booms like the rest of the country, so, it never falls like the rest of the country. This is the first time I can recall our local economy being squashed. Donations are waaaay down. We gave a 16 ' truck load (literally) to Goodwill when we moved, they commented they really needed donations this year.

The biggest reasons I didn't partisipate in this board for a long time this year was I tried my shot at day trading. While I did REALLY well most of the time, the few months that had tremendous corrections and legs down killed me. Before the October/November market quality tankage, I had my trading account even, and my IRA was eaten alive. Now it's all eaten alive!

The good news....plenty to write off for years to come. I wish congress would up the amount one can write off annually in stock market loses.

  2. All excellent suggestions.

I've not thought about fabric...hmmm....I kinda like the idea of "warehouse theater". However, I finished painting the walls tonight and I was looking at what I want to do, and damn it's alot of work. Anyhoo....

I think the speakers will be forte II's, Academy center, and either Herseys or Quartets. However, I may move the fortes to the surround position if I can get a nice set of Chorus II's or even Corwalls for the mains.

I'm considering several Processors including Sunfire TGP5, and the new Integra 9.9?, or even some other. I'll most likely use my Yamaha M-80 amps which push 260 WPC. I may go with two SVS subs. The projector will be in the 2K range and I'm out to lunch on that one.

The important thing is that I also want it to be able to play nice two channel music.

Anyway, it's coming along and I've not been this excited about a projuect in many, many years!

  3. After much debate and sinking way more money into our horse barn and pasture fencing than even I anticipated, my theater is now going to be done on a shoe string. I'm goint to attemp a "warehouse theater" theme.

Having said that, please pick this apart and let me know your thoughts.

WALLS: Paint the cinder block a color (Tropical Nut) which is a comination of a brick color and a very deep burnt orange.

FLOORS: Paint the outside 1 to 2 foot a "brick" color and paint in the grout lines to give the elusion of brick. I'll then buy a remnant scrap carpet and have it bound for the majority of the floor.

CEILINGS: This was my biggest challenge. I HATE drop ceilings but there is certainly an application for them...However, not for me here. I have ceiling joists with the insulation between them and some very nice duct work running in between. I am now thinking about painting the joists black, installing a "track" of sorts, and sliding in bead board painted white or some color which will give the ceiling that warehouse finish, yet hide the fiberglass that bothers me. The last owbers were in heating and air conditioning and the gentleman was the chief metal worker at Duke Medical Center, so his duct work was custome and a real work of art to see.

SOUND TREATMENT: Curtains ever so often...?...I need help here.

SCREEN: Frame out on the wall some 2 x 4's and attach sheetrock, finishing it & trimming it, and painting it white. (What type of paint?)

Anyway, I'm extremely excited abou this new prospect and it looks like it may be a great theater.

    ALL SUGGESTIONS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

Oh Yea, the important part. I'm building this around a set of forte II's :)

  4. I'm now fevorishly working on my downstairs theater.

So far I am building it around forte II's for my mains. However I am toying with the conceot of using Cornwalls or Choras II's as mains and the fortes's as surrounds.

Anyway, it looks like the Academy center is the way to go for a center, but if I stick with forte II's, what sorround would work well?

    TIA!

    Phil

  5. My 20's were a ;itt;e bright, but I like a bright speaker. My RF-7's have a more "balanced" sound I guess, but to me is lacking on the high end somewhat. My Forte II's have it all, but don't handle the watts as well as the other two. I'll get a bad thump in the offer's or a cracking sound in the mid range on certain CD's.

Overall, my 20's did the best job for me. Having said that, I've never rocked out with Belle's, LS's, or Cornerhorns, or even Cornwalls....The other day I did get a treat of listening to some Cornerhors and was blown away by both their size and sound! Really bad WAF problem though.

  6. I got to this too late.

    I've owned Forte II's KLF-20's, RF-3's and RF-7's (but not the RF-5)

With what you discribed, I would have gone for the KLF-20's. AMAZING speakers IMHO.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Forte II's and Reference speakers. The KLF-20's are true ROCK MONSTERS and can handle the watts thrown at them.

  7. I will chime in. I have a Yamaha RX-Z1 pushing 130WPC. While it did a great job, it really shined when I put an AMC 5 channel 150WPC on the unit. After that I bought some Yamaha M-80's off of ebay (260WPC) and these baby's ROAR!

You can get an ebay unit for around $500.

I think the LFE settings could help for the mean time and I wouldn't worry too much about the RC-7...The RF-7's are the challenge.
