  1. Several things could be happening. 1) speaker break in time - It took mine a few months before they really opened up. 2) Speaker placement - Those are two totally different speakers. The 5's are closer to the 3's than the 7's. You may need to adjust the placement to meet the acoustics of your new "baby's". 3) Combination of both above.
  2. Again it seems you are questioning the decision. The RF-7's are much more open and with the propery source and amp you can really make those baby's sing. Also being rated at 250watts leaves you wide open for your amp. Much larger needing more space. The RF-3's are, too me, much tighter. Rated at 150 watts you may loose some "headroom" if you ever really drive them. Much smaller and lighter needing less space. You really can't go wrong either way. My problem would have been "I could have gotten" even though I might not need them. Good Luck!
  3. I have had my 7's for about 8-9 months. I feel they are now more "open" than when I purchased them. I replased my KLF-20 at the mains spot with these. At first I didn't like the 7's compared to my 20's. Now it seems like the 20's are "lacking & thin" compared (and the 20's are great). BTW....GREAT PRICE....I got mine for $1,650 a pair and my 20's for $800 a pair, all new.
  4. As a owner of both, I say get the 7's. I currently have KLF-20's for my surrounds but have considered replacing them with the RF-3's from my bedroom system.
  5. Thanks BobG, Yesterday I did go to my dealer and tell her that the problem is still present. She asked me to get her the serial # off of the back and she would order a replacement. Again thanks!
  6. No, I was able to remove the wood. I now have an HD projectionb TV, no tubes no problem.
  7. It's the shielding. When I had a tube TV I had to place a piece of 1x lumber between the TV and speaker (RC-7) that provided proper sheilding.
  8. Fish, I usually have good luck, except with these. Like you, I have not actually broken a grill or foot, but use extreme caution. I can see a day when I could break one. As for taking back the RF-7, Damn it's heavy, as you know. I was happy the repair was simple and I could do it. I did take back the RS-7 but like a car, it operated fine at the "dealorship". If I pressed it I could get the stor eto get me a new one as I have spent insane money there. How do you like your Denon 2900? I have been considering getting that or the new Yamaha (not sure of the number). Do you use yours for DVD-a or SACD?
  9. Thanks T2K, I really love Klipsch and I repaired the RF-7's myself. I still have intermitant problems with the RS-7. I will do what you suggested as well. My local dealor is helpful but it did not act up the one time I took it back. I am actually going to record the cut outs so I can prove it to her. The speaker is about one month old and I feel like a should have gotten a replacement instead of having to go through all of this.
  10. I have the following: Mains: RF-7's Center: RC-7 Surrounds: KLF-20's Rear: RS-7 I used a KSW-12 at first, which I liked, but traded up to a KSW-15 which absolutely rocks. I have auditioned the RSW-10 & 15 and for the price difference I did not "bite". I have recently added a B & W ASW1000 sub as a rear sub. I really do not know why I did this except for the "bug". It does nothing for music but does indeed add depth and "feeling" in the rear. Placement is everything with a sub. With the correct placement I have seen 10" sub out perform poorly placed 15" subs.
  11. I would have thought that a Klipsch person/rep would have replied to this. It has been so frustrating to me that I only have klipsch in my main set-up but recently added a second sub and went with B & W instead. I was planning to entirely outfit my bedroom setup with Klipsch but find myself secong guesing that thought. By the way, I do have a set of Ledgends KLF-20 and I do not think they are as detailed as the Reference Series.
  12. I will have to say that I have been extremely dissapointed in the build quality of the reference speakers. The legs are flimsy & grills break. One of my RF-7's I had to take the back off the speaker to connect a wire. Later I purchased a single RS-7 and the main speaker cuts in and out. I have taken it to the store of purchase who have tried to help but it did not do it then. When the speaker cuts in and out the horns on either side still operate. I have no complaints with my RF-3's, KLF-20's, RC-7, RC-3, or KSW-15. I feel like I have spent alot ($6,000) for a few speakers and the percentage of problems are very high. After all of that I love my Klipsch sound, just very frustrated with quality.
