  1. Three well placed Klipsch rw12d's (when on sale) are about the best you can find for under $1000. I have one of these paired with a BIC pl-200' and it's out of this world!! I hit 17hz pretty easily.
  2. Well, I bought a 10" KLH sub basically brand new for $50, then modded the hell out of it. I added four extra screws to hold the driver in place, stuffed the sub with polyfill on the inside, then I did the "mod podge" on the driver mod. Let me tell you, I hooked this thing up to my Kenwood digital receiver, and my GOD is the sound amazing! I never thought it possible with such a cheap sub, but just a few little mods to it proved me wrong. Seriously, I played the Superbit edition of The Fifth Element on it and I could hear my windows rattling. Surprisingly, with music, it is very accurate and tight sounding. Since the mods I did to it, it is very clean sounding and hard hitting, not muddy or boomy sounding at all. Can't got wrong with this kinda performance for $50.
  3. Why not just buy ONE Krell master sub? They go for around $28,000. But hey, you'll probly spend that much on 30 subs anyway.
  4. *sigh* I appreciate the suggestion, but please, I asked for people not to say "neither" or "save up for something else"[]. It's out of these two for now, later I'll get something better, but for now it's one of these two.
  5. Generally, placing the sub behind you is the least accurate sounding, and all around the worst place. Generally speaking, that is.
  6. I do appreciate the suggestion, and I'm sure it would kill either one. But my budget is exactly $100.
  7. Ok guys/gals, I can't decide which sub to get. I have a very small room and just looking for something super cheap (for now). My two options are these: (and please, I know these aren't hifi quality, and I know they are low quality brands, but I'm not spending much) The first one is a Yamaha 10" powered sub, it's 100 watts, has a freq. response of 25hz-180hz, and weighs 28lbs. It costs $90 w/free shipping. http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/features/549100037 The second one is a KLH 10" powered sub, 100 watts as well, has a freq. response of 30hz-180Hz, and weighs 35lbs. It costs $80 w/free shipping. http://www.hhgregg.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=15736 So, which one would you guys recommend? And please don't say "neither" or "hold out for something better". I'm getting one of these now, and I would love some opinions on which one to get. Thanks in advance.
  8. Happy birthday dude, and congrats on the sub.
  9. That is a FANTASTIC deal. Sorry you gotta get rid of it dude. Wish I could afford it right now.
  10. Well I have the THX 5.1 sub, not the ultra. But still I see your point. Klipsch is quality, Sony is garbage - guess I'll just wait until I can build my own. (which is what I plan to do)
  11. Gah, I said not to suggest higher priced items. [] I do appreciate the input guys, but I was wondering how the Sony sub would fare in comparison to the Promedia 5.1 THX sub? I know there are better options out there, but I'm not looking to spend much more yet. Would the Sony be a big improvement over the PM 5.1 sub is what I wanna know...
  12. Don't let watt ratings fool you, they generally have VERY little to do with actual sound quality or SPL.
  13. But do you think the Sony sub would be better for movies and games? I'm looking for something super cheap, no more then say $150 that will have deeper and more "window rattling" bass then my promedia sub. (don't get me wrong, the PM sub kicks major ***, but I'm just lookin for a little more low end bass for my movies and games )
  14. Ok guys/gals, right now I have a Klipsch Promedia 5.1 THX system. I have it hooked up to my PC and it sounds fantastic, but I was wondering, would the Sony 12" SA-WM500 sound any deeper or better? Here's the Sony sub in question - http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_techspecs_full.php/masterid=811011 I mostly watch movies and play games on the speakers. I'd be hooking up a receiver to my PC via optical cable if I got the Sony sub. I know Sony speakers aren't exactly known for their "high quality", and that Klipsch is known for it. But would you guys think the 12" Sony sub would naturally have deeper and louder bass? Especially for movies? So my question is, would I be better off staying with the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 sub I have, or would it be a worth while upgrade to the Sony 12" sub? Oh and please don't recommend I get a pricier sub, the Sony is all I can afford. Thanks in advance guys/gals.
  15. I personally think you should go with the new reference high end sub, the RT-12d. The thing is a beast and will perform easily as good as both the subs you listed.
  16. Projection > all. Imo anyways. You just simply cannot get a "true" cinematic experience with anything else. Front end projection just has that genuine "movie theater" feel.
  17. I'm wondering if I should place my PM 5.1 sub on the carpet or not? I've heard you get better bass if you place a small flat piece of word under it, or something of the like. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
  18. Why exactly would I be kidding? If you don't realize the RSW-15 can be beat by a DIY sub with the right components you clearly know very little about DIY speakers. Why the hell do people keep recommending I buy a pre-built sub? That is NOT the point of this tread, the point of this thread is to find DIY, that's DIY components that will be able to compete with the RSW-15. No offense, but coming in here and recommending commercial stuff is really not helpful, at all.
  19. I'm gonna be building my own 15" HT sub and wanted some recommendations on how to beat the RSW-15 in performance. So feel free to recommend some 15" drivers, amps, and sub box design types that would beat the RSW-15. I am looking to build a sub for home theater use that has really low frequency response and high output. Thanks in advance.
  20. Nice, thanks for the heads up. I decided against using the MTX subs. I never have liked the boomy sound of most car subs. I think I'm gonna go with dual 15" Tumult 15D2's, these things go all the way down to 15hz! I'm looking for very very low frequency DIY subs with high output. For all the other drivers I think I'll use Dynaudio, Dayton or Peerless.
  21. I was wondering if you guys could point me in the direction of some good quality speaker drivers? You guys said MTX isen't good for subs, but Parts Express is really the only site I can find that sells a lot of DIY speaker stuff. Are there other places online that I can go to find quality DIY speaker components? Thanks in advance. And we'll have to agree to disagree on the DIY part guys. I've always found that going the DIY route for the things I build has always saved me money, gotten me better quality for the money, and been a LOT more fun. Sure commercial products serve their purpose and are a great choice for a lot of people, I'm just more of a DIY guy. P.S. I was totally wrong about the size of the room guys! I was simply estimating (which I'm apparently terrible at ). I just measured it and It's actually 22 x 23 feet long exactly. Sorry for the confusion.
  22. More like "definitely". When you build it yourself you always get more for your money. I do appreciate the suggestion, but I've decided on DIY.
