. I am considering RB-35's but I know that I would be getting into purchasing the RC-35 and RS-35 to go with it, and that is bringing it up to another price bracket.

Welcome to this never ending money sucking hobby of ours. I had the same set up as you, upgraded to the 35s in less then a year, and I will seriously consider the ultras.

if you can though, go 35s, more full and even sound.

    Good luck!

  2. You should go straight to a RF-35.

the 8 inch speaker is more full sounding, better rounded speaker. I used to own the RF-15s which were good but very bright. There is a difference going from the 5.25 to the 6.5 to the 8 inch speakers

  3. Hey gang,

I know that cables and bi-wiring can be a sore spot on the BB and the debate rages on, but I liked the results from my bi-wired center channel.

I bought monster z series from good guys because it was local and easy. NO need for shipping and waiting. However, I do hate the idea of paying for Monster's incredible marketing machine ( I mean they are the BOSE of cables ) and was looking for alternatives that the gang can recommend. I live in the Bay Area so I like to pick up instead of ordering online if possible, but of course, if you have a source on the net for bi wire cabling at a great price, I am interested.

    Help!

Why do you think I got out of that gawdawful place.

My boss patted me on the back for selling this poor guy $300 worth of Monster cables to go with a $500 HTiB.

I didn't sleep very well that night.

I think its almost human nature to think if you pay more, you get better performance. I always hated "the gold connectors for a printer cable" push. Its like, parallel is so slow anyways, no amount of gold will improve the speed.

I second this. Pioneer Elite is a terrific receiver when mated with the RF-35's.

Chinoloco, where the hell you been? You've been gone for over a year!!! Welcome back!

Its been a hell of a year. Separated from the wife, back with the wife, changed careers, moved three times. Hell I bought a new sound system about a year ago and I didn't even hook it back up until I just returned to the BB.

  6. My friends and I are going to attempt a LOTR Extended edition Marathon.

Thats what, about 720 minutes of movie watching?

I have a feeling its going to take 14 hours to complete including breaks and meals and stuff. Even if we started at 9AM, we wouldn't be done until 11PM.

    Damn...thats some serious movie time.

Go buy the Philipps 642 Player from walmart for $68. It will play everything your sony wont. I have a sony and it plays nothing but dvd movies. Nothing extra like dvd mp3's, divx, svcd, or other good things that you can burn.

And if you need Region Free, there is a very good "hack" that can make this player region free in seconds.

  8. I can't even believe I am typing this.

After being such a diehard Klipsch guy the past few years, I am going with a competitor ... for my bedroom setup. Our bedroom is really small and the wife really wanted to cut space down everywhere, I am going to get a set of the Gallo Micros for the bedroom. They are only 4 inches in diameter and sound pretty damn good, I'd say equal to ref sats. Of course I haven't listened side by side, but I think I have enough time on each to say they are pretty comparable.

Anyone have any thoughts on them? Am just interested in hearing the forum's thoughts. I guess, the decent sound at the BLOSE, I mean Bose, size finally got to me.

30 min to a mountain?? Pfft! We have to drive at least 45 min to find a decent sledding hill!!

But at least we can purchase a $100K home for about 100K, instead of 2 mil.

Actually... Amy, with the recent appreciation, that 100K house will cost you a cool 3 mil. Only mobile homes cost less then a mil here.

I am very interested in the reference line of Klipsch speakers that are the satillite systems. Mainly the Cinema 10 series.

My questions is, would purchasing those be an upgrade from my full size Synergy speaker (floorstanding vs. Satillites)

    Thanks,

    Tim

From my own little humble experience, yes, yes, yes, yes.

Especially if you are using the KSW line of sub. KSW is loud but very very mushy and "boomie" where the RW-10 is much more refined. Think of it as a Lexus vs. a mustang. Both have power, but one is much more refined and smooth. I have owned the synergys and listened to the reference sats at Good Guys, and I have owned the KSW-12 and the RW-10. If you can wait though to get the full size reference, by all means do that. I own the 35s, and they are a more well rounded speaker then the 15s I used to own. But if space is an issue and it doesn't appear to be, go full size.

Not really, I think the 53 has auto calibration, the 45 does not. 53 being the newer model, etc. Everyone seems to love the 53, I love mine to death, but my Rotel RSP 1098 will be no slouch

    ----------------

45 Has Auto cal too. 53 is just the newer version of the 43.

53 supports a few more settings like DTS 5.1 as well as Discrete 6.1

Biggest difference though is the 53 has more inputs lke a third optical and so forth.

    Nicholtl,

If you like SACDs and DVD-As, I think its almost time to go up from your 45TXi as it doesn't have iLink support like the 55TXi and the 56TXi.

I just got the 56TXi and will get the DV-59Ai.

Well.... I came home from business last night and my wife had been reparranging the living room for X-mas, and decided to move the TV. It is a BIG TV and she moved it off the stand and I'm pretty sure she wasn't gentle about it. She had help from my college boy, but still it maybe took a bump or two. So, I come home to a TV set that is got sound, no picture and the little red light that says "Standby/timer" stays flashing.

I Googled this to try and troubleshoot it a bit and it seems that that little red light isn't a good sign. The owners manual only says "Set may need service, call a Serive repair depot". The Newsgroups talk about imbalance of CRT stuff and needing to get inside the TV and blah blah blah.. one note I read said this is about the average life of a new TV these days.

    ----------------

When My Sony WEGA HDTV Tube started to do this, it was mentioned by the repair tech that its mostly always the Power Supply. It cost me about $400.00 to fix the TV last time. Its still cheaper then a new set and I was able to give it to my mother where it is still in service 3 years later.

If you can afford it, the newer LCD TVs are not bad. they take up less space in the rear then a tube and are much lighter. (36 in WEGA was 217 pounds/ 50 inch Grand Wega is like 65 pounds.)

You can get one for about 2500.00 (Model KDF42WE655)

    Good luck to you.

As far as projectors go. I have one of those as well. BUT there is one major question you must ask yourself. Will you have control of the light in your room. Meaning, does your basement have windows? is it a daybasement or is it a fully closed in dark basement? if you have windows, you will want to figure out how to keep light from coming in. All this UNLESS, you get a projector with high lumes. Ambiant light can reek havic on your viewing experiance when running projectors. If you have control of the lighting situation, then projectors are great. You can make that image as big as you want.

    ----------------

    mOOn,

I thought the newer DLP projectors removes some of the problems with ambiant lighting? I was going to look into projectors myself, but I stay with a TV because its easier for the wife to figure out.
