  1. I appreciate your reasoned response, and as near as I can tell, the reference series seems like a good option for someone who does not want to spend more time trying to find the right spot for their speakers than listening to them (sorry, but I had to say that). I will look into the DeanG upgrades though.
  2. It's kind of funny, I asked a question regarding the merits of the Heritage vs. the Reference series of speakers, and I now have a thread of debate over what needs to be done to make the Heritage spkr's sound smooth. God forbid that I should have suggested some heritical idea of purchasing another line of speakers. I am glad everyone has their passion, but I am more aligned with Klipsch for the value that I see than as a blind belief that Heritage speakers are the best thing anyone could do for their sound system. Just my HO.
  3. Well, belles or lascalas present a real positioning problem with the tv, as if the other non center channel spkrs didn't, and heresys seem to be recommended by most heritage fans as he proper sonic partner for a center channel. But, I am certainly open for suggestions. I am still wondering though about the accoustic qualities of the whole heritage thing that is supposed to be better than even Klipsh's own current product line, not only the reference but the ultra II, given that Klipsch could easily sell the heritage speakers in the face of some of the obscene "audiofile" prices being paid for speakers with 83db efficiency.
  4. I hope you are not speaking of the 950/755 gear I just purchased? feel free to email.
  5. This system has a recent vintage 52"rptv; it is the game room and does not get the newer dlp unit (which coud actually sit atop a spkr). I am just frustrated with trying to set up a surround system with heritage, seem limited to heresys, and I am not hearing the same sound that I remember from these huge speakers from 15 years ago. Frankly, I am considering a switch to the PSB Image series, but I feel like a trader.
  6. The speakers are about 85 vintage and are set up about 10 feet apart on the 19 foot wall, 2.5 feet off the wall and angled slightly inward to the center/back of the room. Power is an Outlaw 755 (only using the two channels now) w/ and Outlaw processor.
  7. I have a pair of Belles that I can keep or return to the original owner. I find putting a 5.1 package together difficult due to the limited center spk options. The reference series looks like a great package, but every response I have had from the Klipsch fans is to stick with a heritage set up. Does anybody want to speak up for the reference series, or is the sound hands down better if you stick it out and piece together a heritage series with perhaps heresy rears and center? By the way, any suggestions on Belle placement in a 22x19 rectangle would be appreciated, as the Belles are not sounding that great, rather harsh and confused in the midrange.
  8. the room is 22x19 rectangle with no obstructions. the only things in the game room are a pool table, couch and big screen at one end.
  9. I am looking to add either the rs-7 or rb-75 set as rear speakers and will be listening primarily to music. Any thoughts on how they compare for this application givewn the price difference?
  10. Where does one go to find sellers of either reference 7 gear or heritage speakers without going to ebay. I have Belles, but think that maybe the complete r-7 package would be so much better suited to a home theater. jgrazier@houston.rr.com
  11. If nobody comes to rescue me so that I can have a single Belle to go with the Belle mains, who has a good solution for a center?
  12. There is a nice looking pair of Belles on ebay, looked as if they were for sale individually but apparently not. Anyone want to split them for centers?
  13. Which would sound best for the center and surrounds with my Belles, chorus 2 or cornwall 2, and would there be a big drop off with forte 2's? Can I lay these on their sides without modification? By the way, if anybody knows where to find a single speaker of any of the above or would like to split a pair for centers, I would like to know. Thanks, JG
  14. How are you going to arrange the LaScala center? I have thought about it but just can't invision a workable layout under or on top of the TV for a 35" tall speaker.
  15. There was a suggestion to use a Cornwall on its side for a center. What effect will this have on the sound? Which Heritage series can this be done with?
  16. would someone enlighen me on why the academy is such a hot item? Seems to be a little less speaker than the other Heritage models. Am I missing something?
  17. What is the effect of lying the horn speakers on their side for a center? Which Heritage speakers can this be done with effecively?
  18. The Belles will be the Left and Right Mains. The Chorus or Cornwalls in the rear L nd R.
  19. Okay, the Belles are on the way. Now I have to configure the hodge podge of speakers I have around them until I can collect the rest of a Heritage system. I have KG 4.2's, KG .5's, RS 3II's, and a KV 3 to work with. Any suggestions on what to put where? I am using a Yamaha RX-V1 with front surround, main, rear, and front and rear center outputs. Also, my plan is to go with Heresys for the center and front surrounds and either Chorus or Cornwalls for the rears. Any thoughts?
  20. Just bowsed the Outlaw website after seeing a couple of mentions of them on this forum. After looking at some reviews, seems their pre-amp and 7.1 power amp provide what B & K does for a LOT less $$$. What is the collective experience with them and ho do they compare to other equipment with similiar specs., most of which is much more expensive?
  21. OK, I think this forum is going to leak to an addiction of collecting electronics to explain to my wife. I am feeling the urge to start looking for a tube amp to run the mains (soon to be borrowed Belles) on my system from the pre outs on my Yamaha RX-V1. What names and specs should I look for and at what prices, keeping it under 3K and hopefully about half that. I am going to start my internet scrounging, but I can wait for the right item at the right price. Thanks for the education.
  22. I am in Houston. I have access to a loaner pair of Belles for the foseeable future, but I don't have room to match up the rest of the HT with Heritage speakers. What would I use for a center and rears? I currently have some KG 4.2's and RS-3's.
  23. Oh, by the way, just supposing I wanted to take the plunge and go tubes and Heritage: 1) What is the difference between the Belles and the La Scala; they seem almost identical in performance from Klipsch specs; and, 2) How would one wet up tube amps on the main speakers using my Yamaha RX-V1 so as to get a uniform sound field, given the gross difference in power output of the tube equipment from the ss? Thanks folks. This is a wonderful place to plan the spending of money that many would not find fiscally resposible.
  24. Well, being a newbie to expensive, which I know is a relaive term given some of the equipment out there, equipment, I looked at the specs and see a fuller dynamic range for the RF 7's than the Heritage gear. Are these sounds on the outer ends of the spectrum just not perceptable and therefore not as important as the clarity of sound in the midrange, (did I just answer my own question?)?
  25. I note that most of you folks' systems are built around heritage series speakers. What is your take on the reference line. Also interested to see some recent post on the VMPS RM40, a speaker that draws high praise for a relatively reasonable fee, unfortunately no dealer anywhere near Houston for a listen. Any VMPS experience out there.
