  1. Does it click when you change the volume or all the time? If its all the time, you should RMA that back to klipsch, they will give you a brand new set free shipping both ways at zero cost to you. Dont bother taking it back to CompUSA. But if its clicking when you only change the volume, well i think thats normal with the digital volume control. The older klipsch amps were made by Bash, This amp is made directly by Klipsch and its completlty new. As far as Klipsch vs. Bose. This is a very touchy subject here, and as unbiased as I can be, if there was a fair way to relate to quality of the products and service to the price, Klipsch is ahead by a substantial margin because of their product performance and quality. If you know anything about physics, bigger speakers do sound better on the average. Sure you can get your share of crappy large speakers, but if you hold all things equal, the bigger speaker will be better up to a point. Most every high end manufacture uses 4-6" mirage drivers and 8-10" mid range woofers. They almost all use tweeters and are all housed in very large and sturdy speaker cabinets which aid with efficiency and depth extension. I don't like to compare the larger speakers with Bose because they are in different classes. Klipsch does make small speakers also and this is most easily where you can hear or see why klipsch simply makes better products. The iFi's are a perfect example. You can go ahead and compare to any AM or lifestyle system bose has ever made and im 100% sure you'll like em better. RSX's are klipschs reference high end mico speakers. They come in a few sizes and they are spectacular for the size and price they are offered at. The RSX-3's which come wit the iFi are the smallest they make. Tehy are a tad larger than the lifestyle spaekers (non-48 system) but better in every single way. They even come with wall mounting stands unlike bose. The subwoofer for the iFi's is deeper and more accurate than the AM module module. The bass has more slam and less fatiguing than the AM's. I found, at least with the older bandpass AM system, that the bass was boomy around 60-70hz and somewhat exaggerated. The Klipsch iFi sub just offers bass down to 30 and even 25hz. It also virtually distortion free. For 400 bucks, its the best 2.1 media system I have heard. Hope that helped.

    iGroove

I grove looks to be better than te bose by a mile, but the iFi is still light years ahead. Ya, there are 4 wires, but consider that you can place the speakers 10-20 feet apart - that gives you some real sound stange and stereo abilities that the other two can only dream of. Factor that in with a dedicated subwoofer that puts anything bose ever designed to shame, well you got a hell of a system. I'm certine if you heard all three systems in a row, you're concern about wires would vanish in seconds.
  3. www.goodguys.com they have stores too, but only on the west coast. I was listening to some RF-7's in one of the stores yesterday in fact. EDIT: by bad, they only ship to the west coast too, that sucks
  4. like ear said, swiffer's are the best (the dry kind)
  5. I am firmly against loud car audio. I live in a very upscale neighborhood in the suburbs and we have a few young kids around here who "bump" every day, speed and scretch their tires, One of them in fact assaulted me with two of his friends after I confronted him about his driving habits. There is only one reason they do it and that is attention. The list of reasons for not doing is so long that Im not going to even start. Here is a very accurate and appropriate article you should all read. Most of it is stuff you already know, but it really brings some serious statistics to light.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> http://www.lowertheboom.org/trice/BoomCarNoise.pdf Competition or not, MTX has lowed my standards of living because of all the noise they have made around my house. I think the government should be more effortful about boom cars. Im not a fan of a lot of government, but when things do affect my health, I think they should then pass laws. A fine example of this is the smoking ban in CA. That was one of the best laws passed in the last 10 years. If the government prevents me from shooting and killing these stupid kids, then they better damn prevent them from being little punks with their loud music in residential neighborhoods. There are literally 20-30 people on my street who have all complained and the cops do nothing.
  6. get the rsx-3 package. It retails for 650, but you almost always get 15% off that price at any auth'ed dealer. pair it with an rw-10, not the 12.
  7. How about the RSX-3's or 4's or are they too much?
  8. Sorry, but I must ask, did you just buy the KWS-12 or did you have it? Because if you just bought it, then you should take it back for the Sub-12, its the new replacement and its far far better for the same price.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Good matching surrounds are RSX-4's but they are not "in" the ceiling but they can be mounted on the wall with only the addition of 3 sheet rock anchors. Beyond that, the smaller Klipsch in ceiling speakers should also work, but I think they are at least 6.5" drivers which are much larger than the mains, That is not traditional and I would go with RSX-4s on the wall is possible. Also, the Klipsch ceiling speakers are a lot different that the RVX-42's. They have lower frequency responses and different tweeters ranging from aluminum to even silk dome none of which are horn loaded. The RSX-4's are the same drivers and same titanium tweeters and would be the best match.
  9. Oh thanks, I did not realize Klipsch updated the synergy systems to incorporate the new subwoofers. My next question is what do I use to power a 3.1 system? Are there surround sound receivers which have 3.1 mode where the rear input is sent to the fronts?
  10. The 42's are about 100 bucks more, but the SLX's have larger drivers and a lower frequency range. Whats the real advantage of the 42's. Because from what I can tell are not that much different than a far cheaper RCX-4<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> .
  11. Andy , my step father, who I bought the iFi from, was actually thinking about replacing his 5.1 bose with just the iFi. He loves the iFi system btw. Since hes moving the HT room out of the living room to a smaller room with no sub-floor and no ceiling space, running wires for surrounds is difficult. He was going to buy a new plasma and I was talking to him about the RVX-42's. How much better/different are they from the new SLX's. Which would be a better rout? Also, would you recommend them in a 2.1 config with a stereo receiver? I was thinking about either mating the 42's with a sub-12 or the SLX's with the sub12.
  12. Well, my new battery died. The system is less than 3 months old. I guess thats about how long to expect the remote to last. I suggest a new design in the future which takes AA or AAA batteries. Meanwhile, its onto battery #3 for me.
  13. No, it does not pause the iPod, it just mutes the speakers. Your battery is dead, take it into radioshack
  14. Nice review, pretty much accurate too. My parents have been re-ripping their stuff at higher bit rates ever since I gave em the iFi. Of course, I sorta hinted that 128bps was very un-audiophile like for a couple people who had 40gig ipods and matching Shure E5cs. They use the iFi more than the shures now. I like the iFi better too buts its really impossible to compare buds to speakers because they offer very different experiences.
  15. if you only live 45 mins, im sure the savings from shipping is worth buying an HSU alone. pick up a VTF-3 if thats under 700, you cant go wrong.
  16. The system rocks, lets all hope they convert it to a "legal" 2.1 multimedia system in the near future. Being that the RSX-4's are only 20 more dollars than the 3's I think they provide a lot more bang for the buck. Perhaps a slightly more expensive version with the 4's would be in order.
  17. ---------------- On 8/19/2005 11:14:49 AM BobG wrote: I was in an Apple store in Florida recently with some friends and wanted to show them how the iFi compared to other audio products. ---------------- LOL, shooting fish in a barrel are we? I wish goodguys sold the iFi, they could at least display it correctly. I dont know why they don't. I mean they sell Klipsch reference stuff and they are owned by Compusa which sells the iFi. 2+2=4 right? Does this not make any sense?
  18. Ya, that kinda sucks, but the display should not be that hard to make room for, I mean, its not much bigger than the GMX 2.1's which are in every apple store. btw, Jay, have you sold any more, or do you have any more funny iFi vs. SoundDock stories?
  19. ---------------- On 8/17/2005 10:31:02 PM Allan Songer wrote: You gotta remember that even back in the glory days of engineering MOST people had CRAP systems. No different than today, really. I mean, is an iPod plugged into a docking station with a couple of Bose speakers really any worse than one of those all-in-one K-Mart Stereos most people had circa 1970? ---------------- Have you even seen the Bose Sounddock? I think it mimics the sonic ability of a turd floating in a toilet.
  20. Also, get some trained freaking people at the apple store. If Jay's store is having problems with an expert on staff, god knows how inefficiently the other stores are running. I know for a fact my apple store STILL doest have the iFi on display. Even the shaper image store has it on display, but there is not iPod so it doest do much. Honestly, between the 2.0s and iFis no one should be buying a sounddock for any reason.
  21. The KW-120's are beasts and you'll get aesthetically matching components. I think the kw-120 is a better subwoofer than the PC's mostly because of the build quality and passive amp design. They both have massive drivers and output, but why divide up your system into separate brands for less than 5% price difference of the entire system?
  22. our mac store is too cocky to put it on display because ther is limited space. There has to be 4 feet of table space betweenm each ipod, lol
  23. The sub is a lot better too, less distortion than the ultra or SWS. My fav part is the crossover smoothness. Because the rsx-3 have more mid punch and dont fall off like a rock below 120, they can aid in the transition to the subwoofer. The sats are definitely better. Considering the pm sats run for about 18 bucks a piece and the RSX-3's go for 130. Yes you can say thats the biggest difference by a long shot. Most don't appreciate the sats who hear it. I have even seen one person claim the GMX was clearer. I rightfully disproved his claim. I also read another review about how the THX 2.1's were better than the iFi. Again, I got my fire suit on and ripped him up on the review page. I'm sick of these newbies who are used to Harmon kardon soundsticks or JBL creatures who get a brief taste of the iFi incorrectly set up on a terrible acoustic environment inside some store. Most people have not heard the iFi. People are still buying the sounddock 50 times more than the iFi and people are still buying those crappy soundsticks and creatures over the Klipsch GMX and 2.1 THXs because they were not in the right isle at the time. Most people dont know how to buy speakrs. Im trying to give as much advise for the few smart ones that read the ipodlounge forums, but its a losing effort. Most people there already own some terrible accessory like the sounddock or soundsticks
  24. ecost has been around for a long time. check out thier review here http://www.bizrate.com/ratings_guide/cust_reviews__mid--18045.html
