  1. A SVS will not overpower your system. Ultimately, the selection somewhat depends on what kind of music/movies you like. I own a HSU and a SVS. With respect to music, my SVS 20-39PCi is better for louder and harder rock. The HSU VTF-2 is also modestly priced, and I think it sounds tighter for Jazz and other "softer" music. I would highly recommend both though. Just my two cents.

  3. I recently purchased a RC-35 for my system and moved my KLF-C7 to the rear (temporarily). The RC-35 sits on top of a Magnavox 35 inch tube television that is about ten years old. I have notified a faint hum coming through the speaker whenever my TV is on, regardless of whether my receiver is on or not. I do not recall ever experiencing this with the KLF-C7. There have been posts on this site talking about the new reference centers as being less shielded than some others. Has anyone else experienced the above or have any recommendations short of immediately purchasing a new TV? The TV does not appear to be distorting color-wise.
  4. I recently purchased a Harmon Kardon AVR 525 to replace my Yamaha 1300 (moved upstairs) due to the warmer sound with my Klipschs. I love the new receiver with one exception. The level of the sub output is noticeably lower coming out of the HK as opposed to the Yamaha (at the similar volume levels of the other speakers). This means that I have to turn the LFE setting up to +10 db on the HK (and the gains on the subs up high), and there is still not the impressive sub performance at lower or higher volume levels, as compared to the Yamaha. I have hooked both subs up individually (SVS and HSU) with both receivers and have double-checked with my ears and my meter. Same results. Any thoughts or similar experiences? Are there any recommended external devices to boost the LFE signal (relatively inexpensively or maybe more)? I have a call out to HK and will talk to the SVS crew this afternoon. Any and all responses appreciated. HK AVR 525 Mains: RF3II Center: RC35 Surrounds: RS35 Rear: KLF C7 SVS 20-39PCi HSU VTF-2
  5. My RF3IIs sound better set to "small," and I let the quality subwoofer(s) do the work. Your Velodyne sub should provide all of the bass you will ever need, and if not, you could always double up on subs (or go the "cylinder" route). A caveat: I believe some Klipsch models do sound better set to "large" so there are some exceptions. For example, KLF-C7: set to "large." The final judges will be your own ears. Ultimately stayed with coaxial because it gives me a bit of a "fatter" sound with Klipschs. Be sure you use high quality coaxial cables to tell a difference.
