  1. Then by all means buy the RF5's. Even with less than optimum placement, they will sound better than anything else at that price point. The Reference Series towers, for whatever reason -- aren't as prone to boominess in the bass as other towers.

Also -- you won't be in that same apartment forever.

    Buy and enjoy! Good luck.

  2. Well...I'm using RF7's and my listening position is 11.5 away. The speakers are 2 feet off the back wall though.

RF5's are sweet. It depends on how close to the back wall you are talking about.

RB5 II's and a RSW10 might suit you better though. This would rival the performance of the towers without question.

In ways it might be better -- because you would have more control over room boundry effects. I also think the sub would be beneficial in that it would take your bass lower.

RB5 II's use the same horn/tweeter as the RF5's and are also real wood.

You would be sacrificing 3db of efficiency and the combo solution would cost you about $300 more.

    Damn those tradeoffs.

    Something to think about.

  3. Hey jnorv - is the 'boom' still there?

what is your overall assessment at this point?

    happy or indifferent?

I was actually thinking that if one were to lay it on its side -- it would make a great TV stand -- a couple of sheets of sheet metal and a 1/2 dozen vibrapods between the cabinet and TV might provide enough shielding vibration control to prevent the picture from distorting. Of course, I'm only talking 27' TV here.

That would be only way I could do it. My listening area is way too small for that monster.

  4. I never really looked at it - since i know how to hook subs up

out of sheer boredom i was thumbing through it and found where it said initial volume for setup is 9/10 o'clock position

jeesh - I have to take it to 3 o'clock position before I even hear it coming in to match my RF7's

Does this mean I got one of the bum amps?

  5. ahh yes -- good thinking my man.

I got the same problem sometimes -- when Debbie decided to home school the kids I gave up the living room and moved my system upstairs. I do alot of low level listening and movies at night.

Sometimes, if I feel like jacking the volume I slide on the HD600's.

hmmm -- I wonder how those shakers would do with headphones?

  6. You did good Halder.

I would of helped you out before you spent the dough but I don't get over here to HT forum much.

You did well with the Parasound. It is a very good choice.

Of course -- I would have recommended you buy my Anthem Amp1 which I can't seem to get rid ofSmile.gif

  7. Your local Klipsch dealer is an idiot.

The RF7 is a two-way and as far as two-ways go, the crossover is pretty low -- which actually helps the mid-bass and midrange stay cleaner. Also, the lowest notes are actually being produced by the ports.

The RF7 has the best sounding bass from a bass reflex tower I have ever heard. It is tight, tight, tight. No boom, no slop. It is tuneful and well defined.

The only way to get the kind of bass you are talking about is to go with two RSW15's or a pair of SVS subs (which would be much more cost effective).

Ears is right about your present sub. It will not even REMOTELY be able to keep up with your RF7's. As a matter of fact -- you might even be experiencing some cancellation effects, depending on how you have your sub sitting. Does your sub have a phase switch? If so, have you played with it?

The most bang for the buck will come from adding a monster sub or two. At any rate, until you get your monster sub(s) - you might help your cause by moving the speakers closer towards the walls and corners -- no closer than a foot though.

Now, if you want real bass -- you're gonna have to get yourself a itty bitty tube ampSmile.gif

  8. I know Mobile isn't too thrilled with them but I really like them - especially with the several different solid state amps I've had over the last year.

I almost bought the AE-3 but ran across a great deal on a Line 1 and couldn't resist the temptation to give it whirl. It's a sharp looking piece with a really nifty remote.

What I did last week was hook up my AE-25 through it because I wanted to see how it did with movies -- and I needed the additional switching functions of the preamp. I've been very happy with the performance of the two pieces combined with movies.

Later in the week I got around to listening to more music and felt too lazy to unplug the AE-25 from the Line 1, move the CD interconnects and speaker cables -- so I just popped a CD in. I was very suprised at how different it sounded as opposed to just using the AE-25 as a stand alone with the volume control.

The midrange withdrew a quite a bit and there was less bite. It sounded noticably warmer and richer. The bass was also a little tighter sounding with some additional 'oomph' -- this could have been a result of having a less pronounced midrange.

It sounds very good -- but certainly different.

At any rate -- the Line 1 sounds great whether mated to the Bryston or the AE-25.

At least in my system with the RF7's -- the 6922 fairs pretty well. I would have no idea how to complain about it.

  9. Fabian,

My comment regarding the Polk forum was posted on the 9th. At that time Chris was trying to form a posse to have me rounded up and hung.

Since then, Micah and Justin have reeled those folks in and the likes of you, Troy, Ron, and others have been very receptive of my presence.

    I apologize for my comments.

  10. Justin,

Are you asking me or mobile?

I never forget what i have Smile.gif I just figured since everything in the Reference line uses similiar drivers and crossover components/points -- I thought the impedance curves might also be similiar.

    Mike,

You should buy a set. They have them at Brandnamez.com for $529.
