I should recieve it today, I will hook it up tonight and see how it sounds. Thanks for all the input. ---------------- Good choice, I am sure you'll like it.
  2. You can blame the Yamaha but also the Denon and MSB Link DAC....interestingly all of the above use Burr Brown DACs...I am not sure what this Sony uses. BTW I dont really want to get on a Yamaha harshness deal because actually the Denon is harsher than the Yamaha.
  3. Awhile back I posted that I was unhappy with my RF-3IIs for 2 channel music , especially at high volumes. I have no complaint for their HT duty though. A. After trying many DVD players and an MSB Link II external DAC I pretty much gave up on trying any more source components. B. I then treated my room and got good results but none that really addressed this particular problem. C. I then posted to this forum and I got alot of suggestions, changing the amp and/or pre-amp looked like a good option....I love my Yamaha RX-V3300 so I ruled that out , however I did buy a Parasound HCA-1500A and it did help to some degree but again it help in other areas more which is a good thing but again my inital issue was still there. D. I put my speaker up for sale....but not at such low price that they would sell too fast so that way I had time to make sure the decision was correct....anyhow I still have them all. Let me list of audio equipment: Klipch RF-3II , RC-3II and RB-25s for surrounds Dual 18" IB with BFD EQ and 1800 watt QSC amp Yamaha RX-V3300 receiver Parasound HCA-1500A amp for mains Denon 2200 universal player Monster 2600 power center All connected with good quality Monster and AudioQuest cables Ok now for the "accident"..... E.....was not planned, I purchased an old CDP-C85ES 5 disc changer off of Ebay ...I did not really want it that much but for the price I paid I figured why not. I first ran the digital output for a day or so and was pretty happy how well the old player worked...the next day I connected the analog outputs and LOW AND BEHOLD...THE HARSHNESS LEFT! Maybe not every drop of it but certainly 90% of it...I am talking night and day though! At first I thought , well this is just an old player that probably sucks and its just muffling or coloring the sound...but after more listening I found that its not doing this..the sound is still lively as it ever was the only difference is it sounds cleaner and the harshness left. So there you have it...the source d/a conversion process was the cultprit...the Yamaha has Burr Brown DACs on the front 2 channels yet these are harsh....the Denon 2200 also has Burr Brown DACs...harsh too. My old Pioneer 563A sounded better than the Denon 2200 for redbook CDs. Well thats it for now, I got some more listening to do.....
  4. Here is mine, http://mywebpages.comcast.net/bentvalve/misc.htm
  5. Where to buy La Scalas? Is used the only option? I'd really like to try a pair but i'll be dammed if I can find one. I saw a decent looking pair in a pawn shop about a year ago for $600...I went back the next day to look at them again and BAM!, GONE! Anyhow , help me find a pair.. I am in Bellingham WA , about 100 N. of Seattle.
  6. For the most part I dont think anyone can really make a good assement of their music ability, without having them hooked up in your own home for an extented period of time

They had it all at one point, even with folded horn loudspeakers similar to the Belle and La Scala. I never heard them, but they were supposed to sound pretty good in their day. And I don't know about you, but when I see pro-audio setups in dance clubs, music halls, and churches, 98% of the time, they are JBL. ---------------- Relax man, we are just having some fun. JBL does make excellent speakers and their pro audio stuff is some of the finest made. JBL is here to stay.
  8. A JBL fan coming into a Klipsch forum is like a gay guy in tights going into a biker bar...not a good idea!
  9. Or J.ust B.asic speakers for L.osers
  10. JBL.. J.ust B.uy a L.arge pile of dog dung!

  12. I personally would take the SF-3/SC-3 over the RF-35/RC-35 ..but you'll have to listen to them for yourself.

There were quite a few people who experienced a muffled "coffee-can" type tone from the RC-35 (myself included) and had to return units. My current RC-25 works fine. There are quite a few movies out there with a weak center channel mix. DVD mixes are all over the place in general. Even the THX Pixar DVDs can feel a bit weak in the center. I still believe that there was an early run of bad RC-35's when they were introduced last year, and that a lot of this older stock is still being sold. ---------------- And that was just a rumor and your going to get going again for nothing...NONE OF THE ABOVE IS TRUE AT ALL IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM!..the RC-25 and RC-35 are the same as when they were first release and nothing is wrong with these. Klipsch representatives have replied to a few of these posts and stated the above. Now ...still... the RC-25 and RC-35 are not the greatest sounding centers if your are as picky as me and some of you guys, to most though they will do.
  14. Basically I blew a woofer in my RB-25s , I paid top dollar for these last October from the Good Guys. Anyways it was from abuse but I called Klipsch and spoke to a friendly lady and she said they would cover it anyways. She said I could either bring it to the Good Guys or pull the driver out and send it in myself. This is where the good service stopped. Anyhow I first went into the Good Guys and was told it might take weeks to get my speaker back, furthermore by the way the guy handled my speaker I was certain that it would come back scratched ...then I would be pissed. So to avoid problems I decided I would pull it myself and pay to ship it to Klipsch....called RA dept, no answer message only , left a message , did not get returned...left another message with my work number...no return, tried calling 10 more times ...no answer at RA dept. BTW all this started Monday ...its now Friday and I doubt I'll have a resolution by days end. I emailed them this morning so well see what happens.
  15. Your probably in the same boat as the other guy, get rid of what you have and start a new system based on the RB-25s if that is what you want.
  16. Tell him to start from scratch and toss out the entire Pro-Media set. Get some RB-25s and a decent reciever and add a subwoofer later on.

I also have RF-3s and I've wondered about upgrading the crossovers on them.. if it would make enough of a difference. ---------------- Dean I have PMed you , in fact more than once. Did you not get them?

  19. Well for starters the RC-35 is a pretty crumby sounding speaker, IMO Klipsch really blew it because there is no current decent center channel for the RF-35s now. Try what other suggest but if these dont work then try what I did, I sold my RC-35 and bought an RC-3II , not the greatest center either but leaps better than the RC-35 IMO.
  20. Yes AA will wheel and deal, just give them a call.
  21. This may have already been posted but I just noticed that the new 'k' series? specs are posted up at Klipsch's website. http://www.klipsch.com/product/product_list.aspx?line=reference

Think about what you said, because you are absolutely correct. ---------------- Yes it is, i'll tell you I am almost ready to take you up on that crossover upgrade offer...So you'd need my RC-3II and RF-3II crossovers? What exactly do you have in mind as far as upgrading them goes? Do you change the crossover point? Tell me more about it. The rest of the post I wont even answer because I don't even own any Denon gear, frankly I am insulted that you would accuse me of owning such ..umm stuff.
