  1. http://cgi.msn.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5748136824 Can you belive 1 academy went for over 600.00? Didn't pay that much for mine brand new. There are 2 other academy's about to end for 1/3rd that price.
  2. What is a good test dvd and where can you buy them? Have seen Avia test dvd, is that the only one to use?
  3. Thanks will head out to RS for the meter. Found procedure on SVS website for how to set the sub using SPL meter, will advise if it helps or not. I do have my sub in a corner but it is in the right rear corner. Room is only 13 ft wide so put 2 la scalas up there with a tv and there isn't much room left for the monster box. May have to rearrange things somehow. Have read you should have your fronts on the narrow part of room not wider wall of room, is that true?
  4. Can someone explain what the optimum setting should be on my SW15 sub? phase, low pass and volume. I have the volume at 1/2 way, not sure where to put the phase and low pass. I checked out SVS website and they had some DVD scenes that are supposed to rock. I tried a couple but I don't think I have something set right because I wasn't really impressed. My room is only 13x18 so that sub should really be plenty for me I would think. When I set up my AVR-2805 I had my sub set at 1/2 way on all 3 knobs, should I recalibrate the AVR with different sub settings? The receiver also set my La Scalas to small, should they be set to large or will that not really make much of a difference.
  5. Hey, I have a Pioneer laser disc player - CLD-S201, has no optical out so I'm gonna guess it won't pass the digital signal. Bought that thing in 93, almost forgot about it, will have to hook it up and play the couple laser discs I own. Are laser discs even available anymore? Will be like 8 track tapes someday so will keep for my 1 year old son to do something with when he is my age. His generation will think these disc things (dvd/cd/sacd) etc are funny the way we though about 78 lp's.
  6. No kidding, the S500D is nice. While I was surfing researching this problem (which you all have now confirmed for me) Sony came out with a S550D player, same as the 500 but had DTS and list price was only $399, got to love technology, pay less get more if you can wait long enough.
  7. Yeah I've been through the manual, it doesn't even mention the word DTS in it. I have Dolby Digital, PCM or D-PCM for my only options. So the DVD player must be DTS compatible to send info to the reciever?
  8. Do you have to have DTS decoder on the DVD player in order to play back DTS audio? I have a sony DVP-S500D player (about 5 years old). I just got rid of my Adcom GSP 560 and bought a Denon AVR 2805. I am told that as long as the DVD or AVR have the DTS decoder I should be able to play back DTS audio. I have messed with every setting on the DVD player and the reciever but still do not get any sound, just video. I get sound when playing back Dolby just not with DTS. I have the player hooked to the reciever via optical cable. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Guess if I have to get a new DVD player I will but would rather no have to spend the money right now.
  9. I have just upgraded my old adcom gsp 560 to a Denon AVR-2805 (hoping to hear a dramatic difference). I am using my old speakers that I have had for about 10 years now. Not up on this 6.1 or 7.1 stuff. Will what I am running make for good home theater or should I add more speakers to complete the system. I have about a 15Wx18L room for my home theater. Currently have Mitsubishi 36" tube TV but that gonna change to soon. Thanks for any help on this subject.
  10. Would any of these amps be good for a replacement on my SW15, i.e. a direct fit? 11. Nope, didn't fix it - will be sending in to Klipsch for repair, when I called though the price is 240.00 - double
  12. I think I've got it figured out. That peice is an interference suppression capacitor that is "across the line capacitor", going to pick one up tonight at the electronic store (he's got the same part for 50 cents) cheap fix I hope Will let you know if that took care of the scratchy noise!
  13. Here we go, this shows part and where wires used to be attached on the power switch (a/c 110v). Think this is some kind of filter or something. Would like to try sub with this part off to make sure that was the scratchy noise I was hearing. Don't want to damage anything though so will wait to hear from someone. The wire off the filter broke off right at the filter and the pigtail is still on the power switch. Thanks for the help!
  14. SCREWED THIS ONE UP, arrows didn't show up. see next post - sorry.
  15. Trying picture again, hope it works this time
  16. Well I pulled the amp out of the rear and found a screw (which holds circut board to chassis) so I reinstalled it. Also found a electronic part (not sure what to call it, filter?) which WAS soldered to the power switch across the 2 posts (110AC). The peice was hot waxed to a mounting screw, it smelled kind of burnt and has the following written on it: 2B104M, ECQ-UH. Is this some part available at radio shack or similar electronic store? or would it be wiser to get from Klipsch/dealer. Think this would cause the scratchy noise I was getting or should I keep looking for other loose connections? Would it be safe to try the sub without this filter? Tried to attach a picture but not sure you'll be able to see it, will try again soon if you can't see it.
  17. I have a SW15 that when I leave the power switch on the sub turned on and no inputs coming into the sub (no inputs so I know it isn't interference from something else) I get an awfull scratchy/hissing noise that comes and goes. Is this something I can fix or should I take it to an authorized dealer for repair. I notice a hmmm or buzz when I first turn on sub, it then fades off then the scratchy noise begins. It starts about 10 minutes or so after I turn on the sub (after the buzz goes away). Thanks to anyone who can shed some light to this problem I am having.
